S: Website Errors

So I have been trying for the last 2 hrs to check out of Costco with the PS3 that is in my cart. The site is slower than hell and keeps erroring out. I have a feeling this is not going to end well.

Ugg.

Probably you and 348,231 other people...all competing for the 2,000 or so PS3s that Costco has.

This post (Costco.com will have PS3 bundles for sale Friday 11/17, 8am PST) stated they'd go on sale at 8 PST. That was not quite an hour ago. How strange that you could "buy" it 2 hours ago.

Good luck with the purchase.

Finally got this resolved.....and not in my favor.

Apparently, what happened is the item went up at about 10:40 but was not active. I had a few browsers open and one of my tries must have been right at 11:00 when it went active. (So that explains the time discrepancy) Of the 2 browsers that were going, one actually had the item...one did not. The CSR stated that the one that did not have it probably was trying to process the message just as the rush hit. Hence, the nothingness tht followed on that browser.

As for the cart that had one and I was in the process of checking out. Even though you had 1 in your cart, it did not deduct 1 from the number available until you hit the final submit button. As such, if they had 1 left and 10 people were all checking out with them in the cart, 9 people who "HAD" them in their cart would end up with nothing.

Costco was hit so hard (Damn 'wird -- I kid) that they had to cut their own internal use bandwidth and they had failures and errors all over the place. The CSR guessed (again) that the server I was going through probably errored out during my check out process, the final part, thus confusing it to no end.

End story - no ps3 for me.

Sorry man, but they'll be plenty after the Christmas rush.

FYI: you all really killed the Costco server!

Yes, that's true for just about all merchants. They remove 1 from inventory when your order is submitted and not before you check out. What peeves me is why did they start selling at 7:40 (pst) when they said they would start at 8 pst. Not that I'm a costco member or wanted a bundle anyways.

Yeah, if they removed it when you put it in your cart, then they would have them all removed and some people might not even go through right the purchase.. Along with other things you buy online, I throw things in my "Carts" all of the time and then just leave the site without removing them.

So it would be "off" the inventory for a while if they did that.

get a $3 Rubik's cube, that'll keep you busy long after the PS3 is obsolete
