NSS: Microcenter opening near by

I was really sad to see CompUSA leave my area. It was better than BestBuy in a few ways because they carried computer parts that BB doesn't. Now the location of the old CompUSA near me is going to be the home of Microcenter. I used to go to the one in VA but it's 30 miles away. This new one will be about 6 miles away. It way more geeky than CompUSA but they don't have any real sales. Their sales are MSRP of other places. Still I welcome the replacement when I need looking for a specific motherboard, video card, fan cooler, cable, or whatever widget that I know CC and BB just wouldn't carry.

Yoohoo. Now we need a Frys.

Microcenter has some very good sales. Just search other sites if you don't find them here.

Get on MicroCenter's mailing list - they send out an ad "newspaper" every few months. From time to time they send some worthwhile coupons - I got a free 2GB SD card a couple of months ago (was sent to my work address, which is about 15 miles further away from the store - probably trying to "attract" me to come in ).

I've never seen a B&M store with a decent selection. Like 10 mobos max at CompUSA, crap like that. Do such stores really exist?!

I get their email newsletter about every two weeks. I wish there was one near me, because occasionally they have some great deals. Nearest one is about 35 miles away.

I've signed up years ago and I've gotten a total of maybe 4 of their newspaper ads. Microcenter I would say has at least a dozen mobos and that's like 8 more than CompUSA would have.

The B&M places I've seen with the best selection of mobos would probably be Fry's and TigerDirect. But MicroCenter does stock a broad range of computer items (much more so than CompUSA).

Update: The Microcenter in Rockville, MD finally opened and it is way better layed out than the one in VA. I like the floorplan....it's layed out like a motherboard.

Mang what a bunch of geeks we are... a Microcenter opening in the area is considered noteworthy good news.

My wife got a flyer in the mail for a free 2gb flash drive or 2gb SD card. Bastards didn't send me one. She also got a bunch at work for 1gb flash drive or 1gb SD card. We went last night and you hand them the flyer and they ask if you want the usb flash drive or SD card. It's microcenter branded.

BTW They sell some stuff from Thinkgeek.com as you're waiting in the checkout line.

Microcenter has good deals like Fry's, but without the clueless floor staff of Fry's. Microcenter

Dave.
