Hurry up, wait, cancel, nope still going, hurry up, wait...

So, a few weeks ago, Donnie got orders to OKC (Tinker AFB). He coulndn't sign them because he does not have retainability. He has 19 months left in the service and as much as we understand and outbound here understands, he shouldn't be able to go CONUS to CONUS with less than 24. We thought we were staying here. We signed to move into a new house here on base going from 1417 sqft to 2537 sqft!!! We were happy and even thinking about retiring here.

So with a move date of Apr 17, we wait and all is well.

Until he went to work yesterday. He recieved an email stating that since he is on a manditory mover list, he only needs 12 months retainability!!! and the orders stand.

We are still trying to stay here knowing in the end, we will most likely have to leave. There are valid reasons to stay and if Donnie can pull the reports to prove them, he has a good chance of getting the Commander to sign off on keeping him here.

So far, we still have to report no later than May 20th. Which means the kids will not even finish school here this year- The last day of school in OKC is May 23 according to the school's webpage so I have to figure out finals for Audrey.

It also means Audrey won't be here for her Silver Award ceremony.

The first week of March will mark 7 years here in LV. We are settled. We have friends here. We like it here.

AND on top of it all, no matter what, we piss people off! My BIL got married last June. AND they are still going to have a WEDDING in April - within a week of our move to the new house here (IF NOT a move to OKC!!! if we have to take the orders, we are going to ask to push it up to April so we only have to move once) so, of course we aren't supposed to care about moving and packing and cleaning, we are supposed to make a 3 day trip up to see a married couple get married again because the seeing them the first time wasn't good enough BECAUSE THEY CHOSE TO DO IT IN A COURT HOUSE OFFICE INSTEAD OF A PROPER SERVICE!!! So, it's our bad that the military is moving us one way or another. We are screwed no matter what on that.

retainability is the amount of time left airmen have left on their enlistment.

If it is only a short time difference, could you and Audrey stay with friends for a week (or however long) so she can finish the school year? I can't imagine going to a new school the last week of the year and have to take finals from new teachers, who may have taught different topics.

major suckage that's for sure..can you retire and live on the base if your husband is no longer on active duty or whatever it's called? How does that work out? I got a call from my Nephew/godson last night from his naval base in Michigan. He's getting married in April, and then almost immediately being shipped to Japan..his new wife will be staying here to finish school. She's from Tennesee, He's from New York, they want a wedding (church and the whole bit)..I told him he was kind of rushing things to try and find a church that will marry him without pre-cana, and all that jazz..ahhh the military..a life I could never live. I hope all works out Chrissy.

On the plus side, the Mid-Del School district is pretty good. Carl Albert is a great school. Avoid getting stuck in Oklahoma City Schools or Midwest City Schools if you have to move. You DO NOT want your kids going there. There are a couple good ones, but most of them are not good.

Tinker is a base that most people get to and really never want to leave. I grew up about a mile from Tinker AFB, and then joined the Navy. I am currently in the process of moving back to Oklahoma , Norman though. My brother lives a mile or so from Tinker.

I do have a friend who will keep Audrey here. And I love her to death for offering. BUT, I would rather her take her finals a week early and leave with us if at all possible IF that is what happens.

With privatization, you actually can now! As long as there is no active duty waiting list, they will go down the line and take retirees, DoD employees and what have ya. I don't think we would do that, we would move out into the economy.

Thanks DF. I hope someone has a heart also.

I was stationed at Offutt AFB NE in 1996. After three years I did a PCA (Permanent Change Of Assignment) and moved to another organization across the base. It reset my time so I wasn't going to get another assignment. I had two years left and didn't want to get orders.

Sucks chrissy. I hope things work out for you as well.

My father was also stationed at Offutt in '84. He requested a PCA and even bought a home in Bellevue. Then he got shipped to Barksdale. That really sucked. I was still in high school so the orders sucked for me too. Just as you get settled in and make good friends, you end up moving.

Such is the life of the airmen and their family. I was raised an Air Force brat.

But you know what, looking back I don't think I would have traded it for anything. In those 20 years I went more places and did more than any of my friends that I know today.

So, the saga continues.

We still look like we are going. We thought we would have it beat - if you all remember, Donnie has a belly and his commander wanted him to fail the fitness test so the orders would be canceled. Well, I got online and found that yeah, orders would be cancelled for all but "mandatory movers", and that is what Donnie is concidered.

The only thing we have left is money. Commander, Chief, and his supervisor are telling him to write his congressman and me the same. The AF is running low on PCS money and to move us just to move us again in a year is wasteful and they think that if we can get a congressman to listen, we might have a chance of staying. Meanwhile, all the paperwork is still moving forward.

Getting sad about it. Our Housing allowance is going down to $847 when we move. We have us, Audrey (will be 14 by the move), Mikey (11), and Patrick (4). We have 2 dogs, a cat and a hampster (Phil, our snake has been at Donnie's parents house since he went to Iraq - mom is attached and I am fine with that :p ). We are not canadates for an apt. when we move. We need a house. I am having issues finding a house that will fit us and our budget. I have already warned Mikey (poor Mikey!) that he will have to share with Patrick. A lot of stuff will have to be stored. We just won't have the room.

And the icing on the cake right now, Audrey was accepted into a Pre-Med program here in LV! I am so proud of her! But if I tell her, she will be crushed! This program is what she has wanted for the past 3 years!

This so sucks. And I am ready for self medication and it's only Monday morning.

They call it pre-med, but it's a little less than that

She can walk out of it with EMT-B and opertunities
