Ebay SS

I don't know what's going on with people on ebay these days. The last two items I've tried to get have been auctions with more than one item available. One showed 10 of the speaker I wanted and the other listed 100 Roomba batteries.
On the speaker the guy had it BIN or Make Offer, so I made an offer. It was accepted and I send payment. I didn't hear anything for a couple of days so I start sending email. Finally get an answer back and I'm informed they don't have the speaker. They claim they had received notification that their supplier had shipped the speaker so they listed the auction. Then the speaker wasn't shipped to them.
On the battery it too was BIN which I did and made payment. The next day I get an email that my battery has been shipped. Two days after that I get another email that the battery is on backorder and won't ship until the end of March.
Maybe it's just me but I couldn't in good faith list an item for sale that I didn't have available to sell. Am I wrong here?

Sounds like a complete scam. And if they are telling you it won't be available until a certain time, they will most likely delay that again, until they pass the 60 day or whatever it is, dispute period for Ebay. I would tread lightly here, most likely just ask for a refund, and then fight it.

Did anyone happen to see the eBay special on television? Very informative about the whole business. I would definitely file a complaint if you don't get anywhere with the vendor. Always try to work it out first.

Always try to work it out, until you get based 30 days, after that fight for the money back because you will need the time with ebay to get your money back.

Trust after someone has earned it, not before. Assume untrustworthy and you will do alright with Ebay.

What was the side deal, Brain? Were you the buyer or the seller?

I try not to deal with the 'mega stores' on ebay. You know, the ones who have been a member for 2 years but they have 15,000 feedback already. I find it much easier to deal with the individuals who are just selling their old stuff.

I wish there was a way that you could block particular sellers from showing up in your search results. It's particularly bad for camera sales - try to do a search for, say, a Canon XTi and literally 80-90% of the results are from those shady camera places in Brooklyn that can't keep an on-line store open because of too many complaints.

In some cases, dealing with the "mega stores" is better ... depending on their overall feedback rating. If you have a mega store with over 90% positive feedback, then you have a pretty good chance that the goods they are offering are going to be what you expect them to be per the listing.

I have a much harder time trusting an individual with less than 10 feedback ... especially if that individual only accepts money orders or checks with no PayPal. I avoid those folks like the plague.

Both of the people I'm having trouble with have been on since '02 or '03 and have over 99% positive feedback. I'm just going to have to wait it out a little longer and see how things go. I still have some time to go before the 45 days are up on paypal to dispute the deals.

How receptive are they to refunding your money NOW, and allowing you to pay once they actually get the items? Or ask that they relist the item and you'll purchase again?

Just a thought...

The battery place offered to refund with no problem. I just happened across the best price and lowest shipping they offered. You guys are right. I'm going to go ahead and ask them for a refund.
On the speaker, I'm really afraid to screw with that deal. It's the best price by $150 I've found anywhere. I think I'll email them and ask if they would refund the money but guarantee me the same price when they get it in stock.
