Talking NSS: Unexpected $100 Deathstar Settlement

Came home from the volleyball tournament for lunch and noticed a letter in the mail mentioning something about the IBM 75GXP class action settlement. Opened it up and found a $100 check! I had figured that I wasn't getting much from this one (I had one of my 2 45GB drives fail and get replaced).

Hey the DeathStars! How come I didn't get any letter on this settlement? I still have a 40GB laying around somewhere.

When I read the title of this thread, I was thinking about Star Wars.

When the class action was announced, you had to register to make a claim.

That's where my mind went also, not part of that settlement though.

Well, you had it "laying around somewhere" about 3 years ago when this settlement was announced (Deathstar Settlement. (IBM Deskstar 75GXP)).

Got home today and saw a package that had been delivered. I couldn't remember ordering anything, so I was curious. Then I read the return label and understood. Opened it up and there were the 25 CD-R's (in old fashioned full-size clear cases) that were the settlement for my other Deathstar (the one that never failed).

hmmm wish i knew about this. I still have my 60GB and was using it last week. For a drive that was supposed to die on me its outlasted a few newer ones.
