this will suck big time in my area ~~~

in todays news -General Motors Corp. said Monday it plans to cut one shift at four North American factories that make pickup trucks and big sport utility vehicles, laying off about 3,500 workers.

The world's largest automaker said the cuts are due to sagging sales, brought on by high gasoline prices and an economic downturn.

GM said the cuts will affect pickup factories in Pontiac and Flint, Mich., and Oshawa, Ontario, as well as the full-size SUV plant in Janesville, Wis.
me as a general contractor - this will only make things worst.

Hell, I hope they don't stop making full size SUV's. I'll be in the market in the near future and I plan on buying GM.

Ask for one of the Malibu's next time - the newest ones ('08 model) are really nice.

GM won't stop making SUV's or trucks, they're just scaling back because of low demand.

Uncle, if you're in the market you might take a peek around now... lots of dealers are stuck with an excess of larger trucks & SUVs and are discounting them heavily to get them off the lot. The bigger the truck, the more the discount, typically.

I do not think the rental agencies have the "real" '08 Malibu. GM is selling them the '07 type as an '08 just for fleet purchases. I know Avis and Budget are owned by the same company and that is what Avis is getting.

I'll be buying a small-midsize sedan soon and the Malibu was on my list... maybe GM will crank up their incentives in the coming months because as of now, the Hyundai Sonata was in my personal first place.

Thanks for the tip. I've still got a few more months saving to do to get my monthly payment to where I can afford. Doing what I can to stay away from having to get a pre-owned.

Look at the Saturn Aura, too, if there's a dealer nearby. It's the same exact car as the Malibu, but I like the Saturn dealer experience WAY more than Chevy.

You can look here for the current incentives - I doubt there will be too much on the new Malibu, but there are some pretty good discounts on the Aura since that's been around a little longer.
