WARNING: Restaurant.com Fraudlent Activity

I realize that this is in the wrong forum, but the more people who see this the better.

I had used restaurant.com in mid-2007 and had no problem, but I recently bought a gift certificate in Dec-07 and my credit card information was passed to a company called "ap9 shopping essentials" and was "enrolled" without my knowledge in a reoccurring $15/month program for I don't even know what!

I purchase many things on the web, and I've seen the little tricks for taking surveys to get an incentives and being enrolled in programs like this, but I am positive that I declined any such incentive after my purchase at restaurant.com but was enrolled anyway.

Google "shopping essentials restaurant" and you will see I am not alone. Just be careful!

Hmm, I've used restaurant.com about 10-15 times and never had an issue... :-/ You are sure it was from them?

Had the same problem with a sheet music site. after 3 charges I realized that it was charges for ReservationRewards.com or something like that. I disputed charges and got reversals. Had to cancel that card and get new one reissued. What a hassle.

yeah...it happens at random for people. the thing you mentioned is one of them, and reservationrewards is another one. FTD.com (the flower site) has it. some people would be enrolled, and some people would not. my guess that it was random. which REALLY blows. sorry you were part of that randomness. gotta be careful...they're sneeky.

I'm positive it was restaurant.com. I asked shopping essentials where the heck they got my info, and they told me. I'm still waiting to hear back from restaurant.com.

yah...reservationrewards got their info from ftd.com also, but it's some things you have to opt out of, and that checkbox comes and goes as it pleases. like i said before, it's random, which is really annoying.
