Thumbs down SS - sore lower back

I can barely move my lower back hurts so bad and I didn't do anything that I know of to injure it. I just got out of the shower and the next step was excruciating. We're talking pain that has me in near tears, blurting out words, total suckage pain. At least it's my day off today so I can just sit and be in pain without having to be in my retail job. Ouchy.

My family sees a chiropractor (well, used to I guess) who would adjust the spine by pressing on the neck, which actually is the fix to most back problems. Having experienced it, I can say it's definitely not made up. I sat up after he pressed my neck and felt completely different. I would really look into something like that.

The chiropractor Nate's referring to uses the NUCCA (National Upper Cervical Chiropractic Association) techniques.

Try putting an ice pack on it for about 15 minutes then rest it for awhile and ice again. If you have a heating pad you could alternate I have real bad back problems and ice helps me sometimes.
I've used chiropractors and got some short term relief but they can't fix me.

it sucks how back problems always occur while doing the most innocuous thing. like you'll be moving a cup across the table and all of a sudden your back will get messed up.

NSAIDs usually work well on me. Excedrin for example.

For back pain, Aleve is my NSAID of choice. I start with 2 tabs, then one every 12 hours. It's not as quick of relief as some things, but ends up working far better for me.

Sucks, thresher, I've had a sore back for 4 days now. Don't know what I did either. Maybe I'm just getting old. I'm taking 800 mg IB x2. Seems to work.

Do you have a doctor's diagnosis of what is causing that pain?

In my case I have to deal with a sciatic nerve pinch... which is aggravated with additional muscle weakness in the lower back.

Definitely get that checked out if it continues bothering you.

Thanks for the advice and sympathy all. I am hurting but not as bad as day 1. I hope that it'll be cleared up by Sunday (my next day off). I will try the nsaids.

Having dealt with sciatica in the past - I feel for you. Hope the pain killers do it, and you don't need more.

For those that have dealt with sciatica in the past, what was the cause of the nerve inflammation and what was your treatment plan if any?

I'm starting PT today for pain from ddd and it sounds like it is something that shouldn't affect me too much with a regular regimine. I was just interested to hear what you had to do on a regular basis and how often you experience significant pain.

Sometimes muscle relaxers are prescribed... depending on the level of pain.

Also, certain exercises are recommended to strengthen stomach and back muscles to help with the problem.

Personally, I just deal with the pain... I stretch every now and then to partially relieve it, but it's always there.
