Thumbs down

Quantum makes bad hard drives. My 20GB hard drive broke within 2 months. It just stopped working. I called up there tech guys and they told me that it couldn't be broken and that they wouldn't accept it back. We'll after a month of arguing with every tech guy they had, they finally took it back. One month later(even though they said only 2 weeks), they sent me a new hard drive with a simple message saying that my old hard drive was defective. No we're sorry or nothing. My friend had the same problem too. And as for their rebates, we'll their so called 2 month rebate return took 4 months for me. If I hadn't called them to inquiry about my rebate I don't think they would have sent me one. Next time I'm buying a Western Digital or Seagate because I haven't had any problems with them.

Just my two cents, Beware of Quatum!

Not sure how this is a deal, but anyhow... I have been using Quantum Hard Drives for years. We have been putting them in over 500 machines in my workplace, and have had a very low failure rate. When they do fail, they are replaced quickly. I have also been running the same 20 gig Quantum hard drive in my desktop for over 2 years, and another 6 gig hard drive in this machine for 4 years and have not had a problem. Sorry you have had that kind of problem with them, but I am sure others have had the same problems with some of the other manufacturers. I don't think it is fair to say they make "bad hard drives" because everyone makes bad hard drives sometimes. Just my $.02

Quantums hard drive division was acquired by Maxtor a few months ago.

I prefer and recommend IBM's hard drives.

People will run into streaks of bad luck, i.e. me. I bought two 20GB IBM drives at the same time, one for me, the other for a cousin. It just so happens that the drive that fails is the one I took home. To make a long story short, IBM was willing to replace mine, it just took them a long time to transfer me to the right division (2 days and 6 calls), and a few weeks to ship the part from their OEM division in Hungary (why from an East Bloc country, I shall never know).
