The restaurant didn't honor the CitySpree GC because they said that people had been "abusing" the GC's. The "Contact Us" page on CitySpree won't connect to the server after I'm done filling it out. They don't reply to regular emails. I'm out what I paid for the GC and the $38 I had to pay for a lunch when I wasn't expecting to. I am not a happy girl....
I've already had the wine, got cheese? |

Email me and I will send you the CEO's personal phone number.
I have had a few that merchants refused to honor (including one store that had a sign up saying that they wouldn't) CitySpree has claimed they refund money (although I haven't seen it yet) I can also give you some emails for some of the more helpful employees. (I am not sure that they want they mass posted so I will email on request) By the way, it is helpful with CS Gift Certificates to ask first if they are accepted.

TLG is right. The Cityspree site DOES say to make sure the restaurant will accept the cityspree certificate BEFORE ordering.
I believe you can dispute the charge of the certificate to your credit card company IF you try in good faith to resolve the issue with cityspree and can not. |

Thanks to TheLoneGunman, I have an address to return my CitySpree GC. And I won't make the mistake of not asking in advance again!

Cityspree is bankrupt!
I hate to tell you this but the word is that Cityspree (aka Metro Cash Card) is bankrupt due to inept management and overspending of their venture funding. They have laid off most of their employees, pulled the business out of NYC and are not responding to any form of communication. Even many former employees are complaining that they have not been properly compensated so your hopes of receiving compensation for your GCs are slim.

Well, that explains why they didn't answer the phone yesterday...
![]() My newest lesson learned: screw going the nice way (via company) for the refund. From now on it's straight to Amex... |

not saying your wrong on the bankrupt thing but...
you said they are out of N.Y. but they still have certificates for restraunts there. also, why is their webpage still up and functioning? also, why are they still advertising? maybe they just realized they only need to pay one guy to put the certificates in an enelopes and mail them instead of 30 or something. anyway, just used a certificate yesterday with no problems at a place called, "The Greek Corner Cafe" in Carlsbad. The food is pretty good but the gyro I got didn't have any lettuce in it! It just had lamb, onions, tomatoes. I think it was missing a little in the ingredients. But I'll give it another shot since the ingredients which were in it were pretty good. |

I don't mean they don't have coupons in NYC, The corporate office there is gone.
The website might be functioning but with all of the complaints against them I would be VERY wary of dealing with them. It's only a matter of time. You were lucky that your coupon was honored but they did cut out the lettuce ![]() |

I think most places would still honor certificates even if city spree does go out of business. Most of the gamble is just in whether or not you get the certificate from cityspree since they now send them out around a month after you order them.

Happiness...
I LOVE LOVE LOVE American Express... Even though it had been well past the 60 day mark for contesting the charge, they still gave me the credit for my CitySpree GC. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Amex!!! ![]() |
