It is good for a summer movie....not going to win any awards, but it is entertaining.

...but I can't tell you why. (don't want to spoil it) I can only say it has some twists and turns that reminded me of Fight Club for some reason(the movies are nothing alike).
Anyway, one of the best action movies I've seen in a while.

I have to give Swordfish high marks. It was a fun movie to watch. A definate 'See in the theatre movie'.
Bires: It reminds you of Fight Club because they both start at the end. This is obvious 5 minutes into the movie so it shouldn't spoil anything. |

only two good parts in the movie:
1) the way they started at the end of the story 2) the ending was thought provoking as for the rest: 1) the story was alltogether unbelievable 2) ever see a computer screen function like the one in the movie? I haven't- appeared totally unrealistic 3) the ex-hacker was had not touched a computer in how long? but was some how able to break the code during his "test" in under 60 seconds when it takes others nearer an hour? 4) the ex-hacker was able to do the impossible in just a few days? (after not touching a computer in how long?) 5) what judge would grant custody of a little girl to her alcoholic dead beat mother and her pornography producing boyfriend who takes the pictures in his house Rather than custody to the little girls father who works hard and makes an honest (yet modest) living? 6) if there was a sex sceen in this movie it was either too short or way to uninteresting for me to remember it. 7) they had one shot where travolta was being chased in his car and he spun his car around and got out and shot at the other bad guys and blew up their car.-wow, that was really believable. 8) this movie was so dumb I am too bored with it to go on....just don't see it! |

you guys suck, the movie sucked. I can see why you like the movie.
lol ever watch, "The Dukes of Hazard"? Its an example of something that can be exciting and pushing reality and physics without totally blowing them out of proportion....that is until they decide to use a fake general lee model to jump over houses and barns....then it sucked because that wasn't even plausible. X-files is another good example.....hey...it COULD, MAYBE, KINDA, POSSIBLY happen....right? There MAY be aliens and all that cool stuff from that show. Some people like a bunch of fighting and shooting and action even though there is no real "story" or "purpose". I don't. I like stuff that makes me think and use my own imagination. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying there is NO place for movies and shows without a plot, take porno videos for example... |

First, Darkfurry, I am not "blame[ing]" anyone. Actually I agree with you, by liking this movie, you were "amused by mindless action.." That was exactly my point, thanks for helping me make it. |

If you watched more movies that were well developed in the analitical department you may have actually had a chance of understanding my point of view and seeing that it is actually also YOUR point of view as well.-The movie lacks on realism, you liked that fact, I didn't.
The originator of this thread asked for our OPINIONS of this movie; I gave mine. Some of us are more easily entertained than others; my cat, for example, is entertained by a dangeling string, similiar to how you are entertained by big explosions, and other special effects. I, on the other hand, need more substance. Now, just 'cause your taste in movies doesn't agree with my tastes is no excuse for your rude remarks directed at me, personally. But I guess I can't blame you really, its not your fault your so unsophisticated, its probably the movies'..... p.s. You missed your stop, get off here. c'mon, I know you guys are cooler than that!
Now the worst would be if the directors and producers of these "mind-numbing" movies found out that people were actually getting serious about them. Take 'em for what they are. I think both of you have a point, but Vacation, I think you're taking the movie a little too seriously. Like Dark said you should try to agree on your different movie going preferences rather than attack each other according to them. hell, if you really want to make your point, the Tomb Raider thread seems like a more appropriate target. Peace. |

I agree with ucbstan.
Furry, wow,.....you have way too much time on your hands.....I'm done discussing this with you. Like Shania Twain says, "I've got better things to do like, wash my car in the rain. Or mow my grass just the same, as I did yesterday. Or replace my new guitar strings. Yeah, I've got better things to do..." |

You did watch the movie...right? Or did you walk out during the first 28 seconds? Do you remember John Travolta's opening rambling monologue? Let me refresh your memory (i'll quote the whole thing because it is so cool, but the first 5 or so lines is really all you need to show that INeedAVacation really does need what his name implies...or a swift kick the head). [quote]Originally stated by Gabriel "You know what the problem with Hollywood is? They make ****, unbelievable unremarkable ****. Now, I'm not some grungy wannabe film maker that's searching for exastentialism through a haze of bong smoke or something. No, It's easy to pick apart bad acting, short-sighted directing, and the purely moronic stringing together of words that many of the studios term as Prose. No, I'm talking about the lack of realism, realism, not a pervasive element in today's modern American cinematic vision. (this is the 28 second mark in the movie, so I waited for him to repeat 3 times) Take Dog Day Afternoon for example, arguably Pacino's best work...short of Scarface and Godfather Part 1 , of course. A masterpiece of directing, easily Lamett's (sp?) best. The cinematography, the acting, the screenplay, all top notch, but...they didn't push the envelope. What if, in Dog Day, Sonny wanted to get away with it, really get away with it. What if, now this is the tricky part, what if they started executing hostages right away? No mercy, no quarter; 'meet our demands or the pretty blonde in the bell-bottoms gets it in the back of the head'...bam splat. What? Still no bus? Come on, how many innocent victims splattered across a window would it take to have the city reverse it's policy on hostage situations? And this is 1976; there's no CNN, no CNBC, there's no internet (oh dear god no!!). Now fast forward to today, present times, same situation. How quickly would the modern media make a frenzy over the story, and in a matter of hours it would be the bggest story from Boston to Budapest. Ten hostages die; 20; 30; relentless, bam bim, one after another, all caught in high def, computer enhanced, color corrected...you can practically taste the brain matter. All for what? a bus? a plane? a couple million dollars that is federally insured? I don't think so...but just a thought. I mean, it's not within the realm of conventional cinema, but...what the hell? The movie was making fun of the lack of realism that it was going to introduce to your mind in a matter of minutess. Get a clue; they gave you enough... ProMinx edit: oops...forgot to include the / in one of my close itals commands. [Edited by ProMinx on 07-03-2001 at 01:40 PM]
