Unhappy

I have had the best email address for the past eight years: bires@usa.net. Is that not the simplest email in the universe?

I logged in today to find that Netaddress is going to start charging $30 a year for my address.

I am torn....to pay or start fresh with a new email...?

Thoughts?

Any good free email accounts out there?

With stable service and reasonably fast servers?

Try bigfoot.com. It is actualy a forwarding service. You can set it up to forward to any account. That way you can change services with impunity and still have your friends sending to the sane address.

I called them up.

I said "I must be dying. You told me I had 'Free Email For Life'. Now you say no free email. So, I must be dying."

They said "No, it is for the "life" of the service."

I said %&^(^*&()*&*()&()*&

They said <click>

err.... Yahoo mail is better... or at least I use it =P not sure about what hotmail offers but Yahoo mail can be received from outside client (no web browser needed) as long as you agree to get one ad from yahoo a week. with all the spam we usually get I don't think one a week matters a whole lot

Yeah, you can access a Hotmail account through Outlook, but using Outlook is like starting a bonfire using a gallon of gasoline, there's a good chance that you're gonna get burned. Even if they have built in virus protection at Hotmail, that probably won't catch a new virus until its existence is known, which is too late for quite a few unlucky people. So, why even take the chance? I used Outlook and/or Outlook Express for a while cuz I like the interface and how it handles multiple accounts. Luckily I never got hit with any of those killer viruses that went around at the time. I finally kicked the habit when my good friend got hit for the second or third time and lost everything he had stored on his system. Thank God he warned me before I checked my email. Even if you try to take the precautions, you're still taking a chance. But to each his own.

Now, on to the main reason I'm posting this reply, does anyone know if it's possible to access Hotmail through other email clients like Eudora?

Hey Bires,

Check out http://www.subdimension.com/freemail

I have an account through them, it's pretty nice.

some info off their website:
  • This freemail service is unlike all of the popular free mail providers on the internet. We not only offer true POP3 / IMAP mailboxes that can be used with any of a number of popular email clients, but we also offer webmail.
  • We offer 10 megabytes of space for your mail.
  • We ask NO QUESTIONS! We don't want to know who you are or why you need free email. We only monitor the system for RESOURCE ABUSE.
  • You won't get spammed -- outside of any normal spamming from posting on newsgroups, etc. We are not in the business of list sales.
The only thing that I found remotely annoying is that they don't have an smtp server for use with mail clients, so you either have to have an smtp server from your isp or use the webmail client to send messages. Either one works. I use my isp's smtp server(my university's), and it works just fine.

Cool uh...please stop...

So, I uh...got an email address through the gotapex forums (bires@forums.gotapex.com). It's a little more to write down/type, but it's a got a nifty interface and it's fast.

Thing is, this thread is still alive, and I made the mistake of clicking the email notification...and every day, I get a few more emails telling me someone responded to this thread.

So...THANKS for all the input. I appreciate it....

Mission Acomplished. Return to base.
