S : Windows XP

Yet another complaint about MS...
Yes, it looks neat...
Yes, is more stable than win98
BUT, why can't MS make an OS that doesn't DRAIN your computer's resources and run DOG SLOW!?
I had this complain with the 95 to 98 upgrade...then th same thing happened from 98 to ME. (ME is just a waste of time and money). I actually thought they were on to something when they released win2k. But of course, I was wrong. XP is slow as slow can be. Wish I could smack Bill Gates for forcing to have to upgrade my hardware and use his damn OS.

It's faster for me...though I notice that opening a txt file is slow for some reason, as is shutting down - which it doesn't do right on mine, just reboots. But other than that, I've been happy. If it wasn't quirky, you'd wonder who actually made it.

given that "every" retail pc you buy has a MS product on it, would it be too much of a stretch to think that the way they have to give a lil somin somin to the computer manufacturers, perhaps making software that's too slow to run on the old pc's thus requiring users to have to upgrade to a "new" pc? the market is saturated, i suppose that perhaps they need to come up with ways to make people think they need to upgrade.. hmm.. perhaps

Yes, that's what I would do if I were Bill Gates - tell the developers to make an OS that runs slow so the hardware mfrs can sell more PCs....

I haven't had too much trouble with XP. Although my computer isn't terribly slow (Ahtlon 650 MHz), I found that it has a much faster boot-up time and that some programs work better. Also, I can have have more programs open at the same time without the fear of my computer crashing! Gaming on XP works quite well, I don't really notice much of a difference in the performance between XP and 98. The only upgrade I would possibly consider right now would be my video card and one can always use more RAM with today cheap prices!!

yeah because then you could sell more computers with more copies of windows.. I keep forgetting that windows comes free with every pc.. oh wait.. it doesn't.. and of course a huge multi-billion dollar corporation would NEVER think of something like that, especially not one that wants computer manufacturers to sell sealed non-upgradeable pc's if he had someone to "compete" against then maybe he'd have to worry about how the OS actually performs, if he even had that role in the company..

Hmmm. I don't know...I have a P3-550 right now with 256mb of ram. It runs fine on 2k and 98. And as LPM mentioned earlier, its slow when it shuts down...sometimes, it doesn't even do it right. I did noticed that it access the HD ALOT. Also, I tried running Madden 2001 on it and it was about 25% slow (lots of lag and frame skipping) compared to when I was running it on Win98. I had to lower the detail settings a few notches to make it playable.
As far as bootup time, its fairly quick. But then win2k is pretty fast. I think I 2k is by far the best build OS MS has made so far. I thinking I'm switching back. I have a dual p2 which I have with 2k and it hasn't even crashed on me once!

[sarcasm]Wow, geez, now why didn't THAT occur to me?? [/sarcasm]

I know why, cuz some people actually have to WORK for the computers, instead of having mom or dad buy it for them.
