Super Suckage: No back windshield

Sometime during work today, my back windshield decided it no longer needed to exist and shattered. Whether it had help from some hoodlum has yet to been figured out, but it still sucked. I had a hellish day at work and when I things were finally about to look up, I get a call downstairs telling me my window was shattered. ugh! very annoying. so now my car looks super ghetto with a trash bag instead of back window!

hehe that IS suckage

you can probably figure out how it happened by examining where the glass was. Was it inside or outside of the inside of the car and how much was inside if any? My guess is that it if was hoodlums thered be a lot of it inside... or if it got too hot in the car or whatever, itd be outside of the car.

Then again you probably didnt look huh?

Well that sucks sorry man

We couldn't figure it out- there were two holes, one on the left and one on the right, but there was no foreign object in my car that would have been thrown thru.
We thought about heat expansion, but it wasn't hot out yesterday. Hell, it was rather chilly.
Oh, and the majority of the glass was on the inside, but there was some that had fallen outwards.

What kind of car was it? A friend of mine had a (gasp, choke, gag) minivan a Dodge Caravan and they were famous for having the back windshields just crumble. Turned out to be a faulty defroster that somehow caused to rear windshield to shatter.

Sounds like someone took a bat to your car... or some other bashing item, like a metal pipe or a mace, etc.

its an old olds cutlass.
and my insurance doesn't cover glass! so far the lowest price i've found is $750 so now i'm off to start calling salvage yards to see if i can find an old one.
looks like i'm stuck with my lovely trashbag rear window for a little bit longer

Don't count on it. Glass is funny when it breaks. It will rebound in the direction the blow came from. This is because (from what I understand) the glass flexes before it breaks. When it does break it is on the rebound and is thrown in the direction of the person or thing breaking it.
