SS or NSS? House mouse...
OK so I was making myself some food in the kitchen this morning and lo and behold... a little black creature crawls out from under the dishwasher, looks me in the eyes, and darts back under.
I live in a pretty rural area at college and I was wondering if that little black mouse would make a good pet, or should I just get rid of it? Anyone know if it's dangerous to handle a wild mouse (diseases?)? For now I am just sleeping with my door closed so the bugger can't get in my room and hit up my snacks on the bedroom floor. |

If you SEE one mouse, you have many. No, they don't make good pets - in fact, I've seen them drop dead from a heart attack just by being too close to a person. Spastic little things.
You may think it's ok to keep them around...I started redoing the ceiling in the basement - 50 years worth of mouse turds, skeletons, and who knows what else. Flippin graveyard. I only did half the ceiling - I loathe to finish the job, because i have to remove 1 tile in one hand while holding the shopvac in the other...seriously rude.

Woo! I actually recognize where your SN is from. Lime-Saber Marionette J! I have a few DVD's of that anime. =)
Anyways.. About the mice.. I'd try and get rid of 'em. You don't know what kinds of diseases they may have, and where they've been for that matter. Several months ago, while my friends were over, we were just standing around.. There was this little baby mice that walks around.. He didn't run away from us, he probably didn't know better. One of my friends caught it in some container, and we put it in a big box. Call us harsh but we let the cat play with it. The cat never seen a mice before, and just thought it was a toy. Played around with it, pawing it, but never actually bit it. They went at it for bout 30 minutes, then we put the dog in. Within 5 seconds, the mice was dead. =P |

Oh no. You don't want to feed a "domesticated" snake a wild mouse. They carry disease and stuff. ![]() Better off with the other two threads for suggestions ![]() |

My cat caught a mouse in our basement last night and brought it upstairs to play with. Of course, my cat decided once he was upstairs that he didn't want to play, so he let it go. Spent an hour try to corral the damn thing myself.

I called the pool service guy a coupla years ago because my heater wasn't working. Turns out some field mice built a nest in the unit and chewed thru the wiring.
Haven't seen a mouse around since probably because I had neighbors move in that have a cat that they let roam outside. Plus, yeah, they do have cases of hantavirus in Arizona, but it is mostly in the 4-corners area. |
