ok...so i get this gift for christmas and return it like in january. i'm thinkin...fine, no big deal. jc penney has stuff i'd want. mom didn't have the receipt handy and i didnt wanna make her dig, so i figured i'd just go sans receipt. well, they couldn't refund me cash, so they offered me a gc. again, no big woop, cuz they have stuff i'd want n stuff. so i take the gc and look around...nothing that day i needed. coffee maker was flippin $30...no thanks when i know i can get the gevalia one for $10.
fast forward to yesterday. so i go to jc penney to get one of them thar reusable coffee filters. being a $10 item, i figure they have one, right? wrong! they don't have such a thing. so i'm explaining to this lady what the thing is (yes, in this day and age, a 50 year old woman could not possibly know what a reusable coffee filter is ...and yes that's sarcasm) and they don't have one. fine. i'll snag a stupid toaster and get the cash back and buy the one at target...right? wrong a-freaking-gain! jc penney does not give cash back on gcs! yup...it says so right on the back of the card.of course when i think back on the day that she gave me the card...did she tell me this about the card? no way! why would she want to inform the customer? this is like the joe pesci thing where they fsck you at the drive through! they know you'll be miles away when you realize you been fscked! of course, am i really gonna go and spend hours complaining over my $30? no! that's how they get you! it's big enough to piss you off, but small enough to not be worth the time! moral of the story is: before investing in a jc penney gc, realize that you best be interested in getting more than that amount in merchandise. cuz you ain't getting change back in cash on one of those babies. not even 15 cents. not even ![]()

Heh, I dislike gc's to begin with. I have about 6 in my wallet that I have yet to use up. Occasionally, when my mom, or other people I know, go to those stores, I just hand it over to 'em, and say happy shopping. I always seem to forget to use 'em when I'm actually shopping there.

i thought this was the norm on gift cards, they leave remaining balance on them. However the salepeople should inform you of this during the return
I have a butt load of gc's as well ranging from toysrus, to macy's. I hate them as well, since i always forget to use them, and they take up too much room in my wallet |

Ha, Whenever I am given gift certificates for places I have no intentions on ever going to, I just re-gift them (Like On Seinfeld) and then I dont have to buy anyone anything and I get rid of something I didnt want to begin with.

Which I personally think if they have like less them $2.00 on them they should be given cash, but that's just my opinion....
