nss: attbi cable internet service

I can't believe how fast cable is compared to dsl! I just did a speed test- my speed is about 1500down/300up! Well i've only been surfing for like 20 minutes, but so far i'm happy. What sucks is that I wasn't here when they installed it, so they didn't use the cable modem I bought. They better not charge me for renting their stupid modem.

I just saw a news item that AT&T is going to raise the monthly rate for "user supplied" modem service. I think there is only going to be a $3 or $4 difference in charge if you use your own modem. Of course, this is due to the fact that cable modems have gotten much cheaper, so more people would opt to buy their own.

Man Attbi already charges me $49.99 a month. I better check my contract to see if they can change my rates during the first year. I do love the service though.

I pay $49.99/month for at&t (still using the modem I was supplied when I signed up with mediaone). If you are using their modem, your price isn't going up (for now...).

I also saw that in many places attbi has raised upload speeds from 128 to 256kbps. You may need to reset or cycle the power on your modem for it to re-configure to this rate.

I heard about the upload speeds on ATTBI being cranked up, but I have yet to see it at my place. The last test I did at dslreports.com told me that I was getting about 70 kbps upstream. Pretty lousy, considering it's supposed to be 128.

This weekend, I'll unplug the modem and let it sit for a few minutes before reconnecting. Maybe that'll do it.

There are times I want a consistent, fast, upward stream. When I upload my digital photos to costco.com or samsclub.com for printing, sometimes it's faster (and less susceptible to timeouts) to use my old dialup ISP.

Those of you who are impressed with the 1.5 you're getting now are rightfully pleased-- but to those of us who remember the days of @home and upwards of 4 mbps....

It still beats dialup..

Oh NO! I switched to a 3com office connect modem (the one that I bought), and now my speed is even slower than ISDN speeds. Is my modem defective?

no, 3com modems usually need some light hacking to get the full potential out of 'em.

Hey LP, I have a 3Com cable modem. Any advise on where I could look to learn how to make it run better. Thanks.
