SS: Getting your car towed

My car was parked in a large parking lot today. I thought if you were a customer of any business in the center, you would be able to park there. Apparently, the parking is sectioned off and there is no clear signage for that. So my car gets towed. I had to pay $157 in impound fees and $30 for a freaking taxi. What a waste of time and money.

If they tried to charge me $500 to get my car back, I'd say keep it. That money would be better spent on a down payment for me at this point.

Thats pretty cheap overall if you ask me. I understand 150-something still sucks, but its way more expensive here.

Well, this is the way I look at it. If it is going to cost me as much to get my current car back as I could get for trading it in, I might as well just use that money as down payment on a new car.

Either that, or I would try to have the person that impounded the car arrested for grand theft auto, especially if the circumstances were as shady as those...

I thought the impound fees would be pretty much the same anywhere in LA. This happened in Reseda.

Having cars towed seems pretty close to legalized car theft to me. They are all a bunch of shady individuals. Sorry to hear it man.

Yeah. They're bastards. When I was waiting for my car, one of the drivers called in and said he crashed the flatbed. I laughed out loud. Serves them right.

A friend of mine was living in San Francisco about 10 years ago. He was driving a Baja Bug that he had paid about $350 or so for. He goes out to his car one morning to find it wasn't there - the city had towed it. He found out what the fine was - I don't remember what it was, but it was just ridiculous - and then told them to keep the car.
