SS/Think someone has my visa check card #

Well this sux.. went on my online bank account today and see a charge for $45.95 to a place called Kwikpay LTD London.. Now I don't remember being in England anytime recently and don't remember any charges for 45.95, especially to kwikpay.. I've never been to the website.. which means one thing.. some idiot decided to use my credit card.. Hope he was smart enough to not use his own name (if he/she lives in the U.S. that is) If I find out where the person lives I'll drive all the way to N.Y. (i'm in CA) and pay them a little visit. Hell, I need a vacation anyways..

@#!! idiots make me so mad. Why can't people earn their own money instead of having to steal mine (or anyone else's for that matter)

Apparently its easier to steal another persons hard earned money than get off the ass, get a job and work for it.

You did get in contact with the credit card company and also cancel this card?

Unfortunatly it's my check card, so it comes right out of my bank account.. Good thing is I called my bank and they said I can fill out a form and they will investigate, and if they find I didn't make the charges, they will put the money back.. which is pretty cool. And, I sent an email to the other company.. hopefully they will get back to me.

I bet someone is going to come into this thread and say don't something like "don't use debit cards, use credit cards". Thankfully, that wasn't me.

Hey I just wanted to say don't use debit cards, use credit cards

j/k

That sucks that you have an unauthorized charge on your account. I hope you find the bastard that did it.

I had the same thing happen a few months ago. I had charges from some ISP on the east coast showing up on my statement.

The bank investigated it and reversed the charges.

They issued a brand-new debit card for me immediately and had it Fed-Exed over, so I was without a card for only a couple days. Before they canceled it, though, I told them I was going to withdraw some cash to carry me through.

From that point on, for me it's only credit card numbers that get transmitted over the internet.

For what it's worth, American Express has a cool thing where they will generate a one-time-use "credit card" number that's good for only 30 days. It's great because not only does it reduce the chances of someone using your card, but you can't have recurring charges coming off it.

I went to the bank yesterday and turned in the investigation form.. hopefully something good comes out of this.. Totally slipped my mind to go change my number though.. Would help to change it.. Might not end up spending so much money.. I try not to use credit cards all that often, but I guess it's the best way to go.. i wish I had them all paid off so I can cancel a few and get an American Express..

Oh well.. life goes on.. heh

---UPDATE---

Wow that was quick.. I turned in the Fraud form on monday and they have already posted the money back into my account.. I might even be getting a double payment, depending on what the company says. They sent me an email stating that if I reply to them again saying that the charge was not made by me, I would get a full refund, but my card will be blacklisted from their services.. (oh well.. being as I never have purchased from their company, nor ever will.. it's not a big deal.. plus, as soon as my pre-orders go through, I'm changing the number anyways.)

Just thought I'd keep everyone up to date, so that those who think that if you use a check card you are SOL can learn something new =0)
(even though I'm pretty sure I just have a cool bank.. i'm sure other banks would just say "Tough luck bud.. use a credit card next time")

I konw that my bank will give me a real credit card (not a debit card) that I can use. This is useful only because then I can go online to transfer money into the credit card to pay for whatever is on it. Still a lot of the ease-of-use of debit cards, but the protection of credit cards. (Wells Fargo, by the way)
