SS: CompUSA
I go to CompUSA in my (seemingly) never ending quest to find a Firewire card. I went over to the appropriate section and picked up the card I wanted (the cheap compusa brand one.) The sales associate comes by and asks me if I need help. I asked him if the card I selected came with a cabel. He said no. So he offers to get me a cable. I say OK. He returns with a cable and I pay and leave thinking mission accomplished.
On teh drive home I take a look at the cable he selected. Its a 4 pin to 4 pin. Its a firewire for laptop cable. I was pissed. Not usually a big deal, but CompUSA is an hour drive each way from where I live, so including tolls its very costly to get there. I get home and call up the store and explain the situation. The customer service guy informs me that its my fault for not knowing the the product well enough, not the employee. And he informed me I'd have to pay a 15% restocking fee even though I havent opened it yet. I was furious by now and ask to speak to a manager. The manager starts talking to me and said that there is no 15% restocking fee unless I open it. Then I ask to be compensated for my long drive there and back two times in one day, because it was his employees fault that I had to do it. He then accused me of making up the whole senario to cover the fact that I picked out the wrong cable. He suggested that if I didn;t want to pay tolls I should drive to another equally far CompUSA that doesn't require tolls. I told him what I think of him and his store and that was it. So I open the firewire card and what is sitting in the box next to the pci card? thats right, a 3 foot cable. At this point I became even more angry. I did end up driving to the other CompUSA and getting my money back for the firewire cable and I spoke to the manager there and I told him the whole situation and he apologized for his collegue and I said, "feel free to mention it at the next managers meeting to you DM." And thus I wash my hands of that corporation. |

Glad you got it taken care of, but one little suggestion, you might want to ask if you can open the box right there before you complete any transaction. Maybe look at the list of contents?
Either ways, CompUSA sucks.

Yeah, with people putting voodoo2s in Geforce 4 boxes @ Best Buy, I think its usually best to have a look in the box before you leave the store.
