SS: Breaking a brand new laptop in 6 days
On black Friday, I received a HP Pavilion ZT1235 laptop from my parents as a Christmas gift.. and it was working well (besides the 2 hour battery life but I've been told that's normal).. but today it fell out of my bag that I thought I shut. The battery compartment no longer opens completely or closes.. so I can't use battery power for anything. It doesn't charge and it runs on AC power, but the whole purpose of the laptop was to bring it to school for programming.
I called HP (without looking for looking over the warranty because my Chinese relatives throw out everything) and discovered that the warranty didn't cover individual components and that I'd have to get it repaired for $200. Since the laptop was only $750, I wish I'd just gotten the Sony Vaio ($1,000 that day) or a Dell Inspiron. Unfortunately, being a broke student, I can't afford the repair so I'm thinking of taking it back (which they may not even accept since they threw away the box too). So I'm stuck with a basically useless laptop, still in need of one (or the money to fix it), and now really really wishing I was friends with a PC desktop/notebook technician. How hard can it be to open the compartment? Sigh. Next time, I'll look at warranties before anything else. Last edited by silverxd : 12-05-2002 at 08:33 PM. |

Did you buy a warranty for accidental damage? I thought that most warranties only covered "manufacturer's defects".
