NSS: When it rains, it pours
About three weeks ago i found out that I am having 4 separate groups of people coming to visit in a period of a month and a half. It all starts off with a friend of mine, who I have only seen once in the past five years...so I am estatic about her being on this side of the country.
Then I have another friend coming in for the 4th of july and to see the Phish show...another person who I have only seen once in the past five years! Then on the 5th, I have two friends coming in from San Fran/Berkeley region...a trip which had been postponed repeatedly since last December....but either way they are finally getting into gear. Finally, my Father, Step-mother, sister, and brother are going to be out here for 10 days, which is going to be really nice since I havent seen them since last August (or Jan for my dad and brother)...and I never get enough time with my family. Now this is the first people I have had visit me in about 2 years. So when it rains, it definitely pours! Of course, we will see how much I can walk when they are all here, which might damper the visits a bit...,but I will make due. I just wont be able to take them surfing. ![]()

Argh, don't remind me, Koreans don't even bother asking before they show up. They just appear at your door and expect hot food and your bed for the night. It's a cultural thing, but still bugs the hell outta me when a different person or family or group show up on short notice for three months straight. Actually, come to think of it, it's not just a Korean thing, I know a Japanese lady that enjoys staying at our home on winter and summer breaks. Heck, I've had a expat from Oklahoma who's professor in Korea stay the night. Eh, maybe they've lived in Korea too long. Nah, can't be it, it's only been 5 years for them. Whatever.
Blah blah blah blah blah. I feel your pain man. No privacy and a break from the routine for such a long time sucks. |

you know speed, it could be that you just have inconsiderate friends....
next time they come by, hand them a can of chili and tell em to set up camp on your front lawn. |

I don't know about giving them chili, maybe a bowl of rice and some kimchi.

You could at least offer them some Kum Tang or Yooke Jang (dont murder me on my phoenetic spelling).
As for all of my visitors, I am actually really looking forward to them all visiting....I wasnt complaining about it, hence the NSS. It would be one thing if we didnt have the room or they all we staying with me. But only 2 of the groups will be staying at my house. The others are staying elsewhere. In fact, I am going to drive up to where my Dad is staying. My other friend is staying with someone in the LA area and she will make a trip down here to see me. |

You know what ufcrusher? I think you know more about Korean ettiquette than me.
It's rude not to serve them a soup with any meal. But then it's rude in America to come crashing on short notice, but oh well, the problems that arise from being multicultural. ![]() |

You see the trick is to make the soups spicier than they can handle...then make sure you have nothing to quench the burning so they have to head to the market. While they are out, change the locks and go on a little vacation. ![]() |

Well I think it's been about a three weeks since I've slept in my own bed and I still haven't layed down yet. Jeez. Come to think of it nearly all summer I haven't slept on it. This week has been bad with three days of interior painting going on. Jeez. Well hopefully next year won't be this bad. Heck, we have three new visitors sleeping in the family room right now. The summer has yet to end. Oh joy upon joys.

I think you are too nice....I let my guests have the pull outs and extra beds in our house. Never my own bed.
