Angry SS: $%&#$% State Farm Insurance!!!!!!

Here's the deal. Last year I drove my car into my garage with my bike on the car. It dented the roof slightly and broke my bike rack.
This year I bumped into the back of a 4-runner, denting my hood and doing nothing to his truck. These are the only claims I've ever had with State Farm in my life, and I've been insured with them since the day I got my license, 13 years ago!!!

I got this letter yesterday

WTF? Why not just raise my rates? They are going to lose my business for my other vehicle obviously, and I'm going to cancel my homeowner's policy with them. I am about to buy a new vehicle also and was going to insure it with them as well. If my local agent doesn't sort this out, I'm going to make sure ALL of my family switches from State Farm!!!

I think I will. This is just crap. They've taken my money without complaining for 13 years. And now when I actually want to make use of their service, they have the balls to cancel the policy???

ouch, damn.

When we were in an accident a year ago (not our fault, but still), they handled it great. Don't know what would have happened had it been our fault.

I know that they do this kind of crap for House insurance, but I've never heard of it for car insurance. I have everything with State Farm too, so let me know how this one goes. We'll all be pulling for you

(I'd hate to have kids or something! They get in accidents all the time! )

Well that's a crappy thing to happen. My own experience that I've mentioned here before when I got hit (not my fault) was to go through the other guys insurance since they admitted fault. That was it and they didn't help me at all when trying to get them to fix my car. I had to do all the leg work.

Here's a pic

Small edit. This should be a smaller pic then the huge one I uploaded before.

My g/f (25) was with state farm (under her parent's) from age 18. She got into an accident 3 years ago (in a parking lot, g/f says she was going less than 10 mph), woman files bodily harm, g/f's rates go up steadily every 6 months. She was paying over $1,000+ every six months. She finally listened to me, and changed her insurance, she started off by saving $300. Her accident is about to go off her record (at the end of june) and the agent said it will drop an addition $300. *jaw drops* She is gonna be saving over $600 dollars, just by switching from state farm. I have no good impressions of state farm.

my mom uses 21st century, and loves it because her rates are really low (for two cars) and my brothers uses AAA.

wow, that is really crappy. two accidents and they want to drop you from their insurance coverage? wtf?!? that's bull****.

so far, i've had no problems with state farm (especially compared to the problems i know people have had with allstate), but we'll see how your deal comes out and how they handle my car break-in claims.

I'm 27 and have a 4dr civic and my insurance was 510 for six months. I just paid is this week. I went back and looked at my other records and it used to 420 almost 2 years ago. When I look at the auto quote from the State Farm website and enter the exact info I have now it quotes me at 650+.

I've tried other online quotes and they quote even more..700+ at Allstate. They have a little blurb b/c of my type of car I got a reduction in my rates based on accident claims on the same model. My brother however having bought a 2dr civic one week prior to me buying mine had a premium added on to his. He's 2 years older and pays almost 700-800 for six months.

Maybe meeting insurance agents in person will yield a less sticker shocking experience then the online quotes.

i just spoke with my agent and he told me that i'm not being dropped, just transferred to state farms fire and casualty company. whatever. he told me that my rates will go up and that i'll know what they'll be shortly. he basically told me not to shop around because i won't be able to find a better rate anywhere. right......he was kind of a dick about it. i'll consider staying with them if my rate increase isn't too bad.

In 13 years of driving I have personally had 3 different insurance companies. I started with GEICO back in the day and that was much cheaper than paying under my parents insurance. When i moved out to California, I kept it until the Probe blew up where they did nothing and pissed me off. So while the Probe was in suspended animation, they kept requiring me to pay for a car that didnt work and finally just cancelled the insurance. When I got the car working again they tried to hit me with all these charges so I dropped them like yesterdays garbage. (They tried to up my amount by $500+ per six months)

Next I had Farmers and they were ok, but they seemed awfully high in price. However, since my mother had arranged for me to be underneath them with my own separate insurance, so I would have the lower rates but still have my own insurance. Now she had been handling it since I was busy with law school at the time to help me out and claimed she had found the best rate. So when my fiance and I bought her a new car and got a quote for her, we ran my car through it as well. Suddenly I realized I was paying $300+ extra per six months so I dropped farmers like a hot potato and switched to State Farm.

In the two years I have had State Farm.....they have raised my insurance gradually (for no reason other than 9-11 and just rising rates) and recently jumped my fiances up a bunch. So I have been debating about shopping around again. Even my local agent cant figure out why they were creeping up other than overall insurance rates going up.

Especially since I have no accidents, no tickets (on the record anymore), as well as a professional degree, plus over 10 years of good driving, and obviously over that age threshold.

Yeah they keep creeping up the price. I think they base it on all the accidents for that specific car model and spread the damage to anyone who owns that car model.

I like the lil pamphlet they have about changes in the conditions of your insurance. They don't cover damages as a result of biological or radiological devices detonating in or around your vehicle.

Gee...thanks.

IMO State Farm is a total rip-off. Wifey has a small accident four or five years ago and they treated us like we were diseased. F' 'em. Now we use Liberry Mutual. Cheaper and very nice to deal with.

They now use some sort of point system based dollars paid out claims and have basically created a system where you're screwed for using your insurance.

I have State Farm the big heave-ho a long time ago. I was going through a local broker that Merlin put me in touch with until I got married to Mrs. Kevster. Since Mrs. Kevster is the daughter of a retired Marine Corps Colonel, we now have USAA insurance and we like that very very much.

If you can get it, USAA has great rates. I am extremely satisfied with them.

On this topic, Kiplingers had a big article this last month on the coming crisis with Homeowner's insurance and how companies are dropping people who make claims. They are looking especially at claims with water damage because of the increased mold risk. It is a very informative (and scary from a customer standpoint) article - I won't be able to link it until next month's issue is out.

cool. please do. as a fairly new homeowner, i'd be interested.

also, there should be a law against us paying for a service, and they getting penalized severely when we use it.

So what are the requirements to get USAA? Is it any specific armed force or any US military group? Also, Whitak said that his friend has it through his father, so I gather that it does not matter if you are still a dependent or just related?

I had USAA for awhile (my granddaddy was in the army). I don't remember the exact requirements. But I am going to be checking back with them, cause I think we'll get it cheaper.

www.usaa.com and click on "become a member"

We have used USAA for renters and auto since we moved to vegas (rates are really high here) We just recently started using them for checking.
