SSSSS: Immature kiddies that get their rocks off by aggravating people

Ok, so I am an op on a *ahem* torrent irc channel. Yesterday, a guy was being really annoying, yelling in all caps, making rude comments, etc. I decided to ignore it til someone complained, figuring he would get bored and go away or just shut up.

Then he posted some links to some rather, well, adult pictures of some penis's. So I banned him. When we ban someone, usually it is a temp ban, for 30 min. So he messaged me after he was kicked out. Said to unban him, he was just messin around. Tried for about a minute to get me to unban him. I told him it was 30 mins and he could come back in then.

2 minutes later, I got ddos'd. For those who don't know, ddos is distributed denial of service. Means he floods my connection so much that it drops. (At least, that is what I believe is the right description...)

It has now happened at least 3 times since then. After the first time, he got on later last night and said, "Jenny, how'd you like your connection after you banned me?" Then early this morning, a friend of mine (another op) permbanned him. Awhile ago, I was hit hard, 3 times in a row. So now my friend (same op) is talking to HIS friends... Who can give as well as anybody.

Damn peckerhead is getting his rocks off using me. Oddly enough, his nickname is ****r32.

lol

I hate *******s like that. He's a stupid ****ing script kiddie who has no real brains behind him. If he went on irc, he's proably too stupid to mask his ip. So you Have his IP and the time he was on, call the isp and crush him. he needs it, he'll never learn otherwise.

hehe My friend Mike DDOS'd him back while I installed Sygate firewall and he was back on irc afterwards but hasn't done anything else. So... I think it's over. Thank goodness.

We have a router. We have no idea why it didn't stop it. Scott is checking at work.

You guys know a whole helluva lot more than I do with all this networking mumbo jumbo.

Where do these script kiddies learn their craft? I feel so old and obsolete.

Torrent sucks anyway now. Since it was open source someone found a way to limit uploads and the whole system basically collapsed. I remember the good old torrent days when you could download at 400kbs now you are lucky to download 1/2 of what you upload because of the cheaters.

that's not true. I don't know why people believe this. The way it works is if your uploading 4k, you'll recieve 4k because that's what other people will send you. you can recieve more than that when there is a excess of bandwidth.

and DF even if the router catches it, it still has to read each packet coming in. so her computer might not feel the blow, but the connection is still pegged.

yes, that is true. But that just stops it at the router. Having a router that drops it is better than having your computer drop it any day, but it will still slow the connection.

If you are given a 1.5mbps downstream, you can only recieve at 1.5mbps. so say the ddos attack is generating traffic well over that. So your router is dropping all those packets, which is good since your computer won't have to deal with it. But since the ddos attack is pegging your downstream (as in fully), there is little to no chance you will be able to download anything you like anytime soon.

You should also remember that a lot of lower-end routers out there are 8088, 80286 or maybe even (gasp!) an 80386-based processor. That's fine as long as the line speed is only up to maybe 1.5M and you're not doing a lot of filtering. It also depends on how much memory your router has to be able to handle those requests otherwise you start runing into queuing problems.
