Thumbs down SmilesCoffee Offer scam???

I just got my smilescoffee offer yesterday, and it has one serious problem. I don't have my "FREE" digital camera include in my pack The only thing I get is a postcard that mentions the camera.
Here's the two options that's availavle:
1. I have previously cancelled my Smiles membership in accordance with the required terms and conditions, but I still want the free amera. Please charge my credit card on file for the $9,95 shipping & handling fee.
2. Please ship my free digital cmaera with my next Smiles COffee monthly shipmehnt. No shipping and handling will apply.

OK, then what should I do now??? either way I'll spend another $15(9.95+4.95) for digital camera.

Any suggestion?

First try to contact SmilesCoffee and get them to honor their end of the deal.

If SmilesCoffee did not live up to their end of the bargain, cancel your membership and then file a dispute with your credit card company. Do not use a debit card or PayPal as they offer no real protection. Do NOT ask for a next shipment. Your credit card company will not authorize payment to SmilesCoffee until all the facts are in. If you are indeed right about the camera being part of the sign-up deal, your credit card company should side with you, and you’ll be out nothing. This may be the best you can do… break even.

As for the camera, all you can do then is to threaten SmilesCoffee with a complaint to the BBB and promise to post the facts (and only the facts) about them as many places as possible, e.g. Resellerratings, bizrate, etc. Then DO IT if they don’t honor their agreement. Chances are you will not get the camera. Often shady companies will not even respond to a BBB inquiry, at which point they receive an unfavorable rating from the BBB.

Doing much more than the above will involve a lot of time and/or expense. Only you can decide the trade-off between “being principled” and “not worth the hassle”… a fine line indeed.

I have never lost a disputed credit card charge. But I have not always been successful in getting a company to live up to their word.

I thought it said on the Smiles site that the camera would not be sent in the initial shipment, but a mail-in-coupon would, and that if you cancelled your membership after the initial shipment, you could still get the camera for the additional $9.95 processing fee.

I do think that this was all outlined in the terms of the agreement.

However, I didn't sign with them because I couldn't find ANYWHERE on the site how much each monthly shipment of coffee will cost on their "subscription". They've changed the site, and now list the monthly price ($29.95), but are no longer offering the camera.

They've obviously changed their promotion, but as I recall what you are describing was how the old promotion was supposed to work, as outlined in their "fine print".

Its a scam. They dont let you easily cancel. Before you know it they are sending you a ton of prouct. I called to cancel and then got another shipment. They told me no returns even though the box wasnt opened. I got my cc company to cancel and reverse all of the charges,,,,Rob

They charge $9.95 initially and send the coffee and grinder. Then, for $9.95 (send in the card), you get the camera. The total is $19.90, as stated in the deals. To cancel, there's a $4.95 fee. Pretty straight forward. If you go through the link we provide and end up thinking the 2 packs of coffee, the grinder, and the digital camera are worth the $25 or so, just let me know, and I'll send you the $4.95 to cover the cancellation charge.

I dont think so. They started shipping me multiples on the coffee. When I called up there were pretty nasty about cancelling. The reason they dont let you cancel online is so it makes it less convenient for you to cancel the service. I never had a company give me a hard time to cancel one of these things over the phone. In the end run I got several chargebacks against them which would have been avoided f they were were more reasonable on the phone. The coffee ginder is worth the 9.95 with the starter kit. To spend another 5.00 to cancel is crazy....Rob
