May be the end of an era...Staples/Maxtor screwing with rebates again...

I bought a maxtor HD back in May from Staples (one of those two-rebate deals) I called a CSR at staples, got his employee number when he told me to send a copy of my UPC to staples.

Checked both rebates in June...all is well-both rebates valid and processing.

Fast forward to mid July...the staples rebate is GONE from staplesrebates.com and I got a postcard from rebateshq telling me that they never got my UPC!

Until this is resolved, Staples and Maxtor won't see another red cent from my AMEX!

Sure. I figure staples *may* play ball if I nag enough. But it looks like rebateshq LOST my original UPC somewhere along the line.

Seven weeks...THEN they say they never got the UPC...something stinks.

I got a feeling I'm eating this one.

BTW: I have only had one other rebate go sour like this in the six or seven years that I have bought things on the internet: My router from dell shipped without a shipping label or invoice (lost in the mail?). Netgear (the rebate ppl) would not take a copy or reproduction, so Dell just creditted me the value of the rebate.

ultimately staples is responsible for the price, so if you bug them enough you can probably get them to credit you back the amount of the second rebate.

what do you think about compiling everything about this rebate (i.e. employee number, your correspondence with the rebate company, etc.) and taking it up with your credit-card company?

Your best bet is going to Staples B&M and asking to speak to a manager. Show him or her the copies you made of what you sent in. (You did make copies, right?) Tell them the situation. They will do one of two things.
1.) Tell you to resubmit your materials to Parago
2.) Call Parago for you to fix the problem

If Parago is being more than recalcitrant the manager will credit you. This is the manager's last resort, because doing this really hurts your local store's sales numbers.
