NSS: Getting a discount just because you asked

I decided that I was going to get my real estate license and started looking into taking the steps. I downloaded the information from www.dre.ca.gov and was sitting there scratching my head as to whether I could just get my brokers license or if I had to get a salespersons license first and then take some courses to get my brokers license.

My friends wife said I had to do the later and told me where to get the books. She didnt know that I waived out of a bunch of things due to my being an attorney so I wanted to double check the fact. I ended up calling the place to get some more information and I found out I can just take my brokers license. Great!

So I end up calling back a bit later and double check what the first guy told me...sure enough this guy says the same thing. I went to sign up and the guy asked me if I was quoted a price. I tell him $249, but if he has any discounts I will take them. Sure enough they give me a discount of $25...and tell me where to go get the other book for cheaper. That is what I call customer service! (The price was also listed on their website for the $249 so I knew the one guy wasnt just inflating it)

Now I just need to study and sign up for the test.......should be a breeze. This will nicely augment my resume and allow me to make more money.

Yup, I'm a big believer in asking. It doesn't hurt and the worst thing that will happen is they'll say no. The best case is that they'll throw you something for nothing.

Who would have thought that you need more education when you already have a doctorate..........but in this case, it should make me more appeallimg to a few different areas of potential employment.

Yes, its great I can register as a Dr. for Airline tickets and everything......officially anyone who has a MD, PHd or JD can do it. Officially we all have Doctorates, but most of us arent pompous enough to make everyone call us Dr. X. I have only insisted on being called Dr. once and that was when there was this prick who decided that he must be better than everyone. So when he went to shake my hand, I said I prefer Dr. crusher. The guys eyes went wide and he suddenly realized he had made a grave error in his demeanor. Only problem is when they ask me what my specialty is I have to say Sick laws.

does that mean the airline tickets are cheaper? or just that the airline staff thinks you're a dr?

It jus gives you preferred status for getting perks. IN other words if they are going to bump someone up to first class, they will usually bump Dr's. I know that sometimes if you just ask if they have any free upgrades, they will bump you up to first for no added cost. Then again, with the way that airline industry is going today, who knows if it will still work.
