Little Dogs

Man, I can't stand little dogs with their yipping and Napoleon complexes. I have two medium sized puppies (10 months, 95lbs & 5 months, 50lbs), and they like little dogs, but those little things always freak out and go berserk.

i have a little dog and she isn't yipping and freaking out all the time. she is a year old and weighs 12 lbs, and has calmed down from when she was a pup.

My neighbors have 2 mini poodles...man, are they ever yappers. My lab puppy tries to play with them and you'd think the world was ending.

Little dogs = Food for big dogs and coyotes!

The latter is true especially in my area where cats and little dogs routinely get eaten. Plus I couldnt trust my dogs with any little dogs....the sire of both of my dogs is a known killer of smaller animals.

We went to the dog park a couple times in the last few days. Always the same story. It's the dogs under 40lbs that are always causing the problems.

There's a separate area for sissy dogs, but there's still some little dogs with big attitudes in the general area.

Of course, your dog is different.

Just like everyone thinks "their" dog is smart. Really, what is the point of having a little kick dog.

i know guys don't like little dogs and that s'ok. it is my personal preference. i did some research before i got my pup. toy poodles have hair like humans so people who are allergic to dogs won't be allergic to this breed. they also don't shed. i didn't wanna hafta run the vaccuum like it was a full time job.
and no, she didn't score 1600 on the SAT so i'm not bragging about how smart she is.

so the point of having a little dog is all of the above and i love her.

I, too, dislike the "yip yip" type dogs. But not all smaller dogs are sissies. When I was young we had a Boston terrier - probably under 20 pounds. But, yeah, he had an attitude. We once saw him take after a big German shepherd, which fortunately was not aggressive and did all he could to avoid a fight (before we managed to get them apart). (This was at a fishing camp, not a dog park.)

Let's be PC here, he's not "hyper" he has a normal case of the puppy "zoomies" - ah, very familiar with that.

Yeah, if you can find good "puppy school" that's great. It's not so much about learning "sit, stay, down, come", but rather the early socialization w/other dogs/people that helps out in the long run.

Nope, their sire has a great demeanor towards humans. He broke a whippets back, killed several rats, cats, and lots of birds.

Our male has thus far killed 2 rats and 2 birds on the wing.
Our female has killed several small pieces of shrubbery.
Their sister has killed 15 ground squirrels, 1 rabbit, 2 birds, and some lizards.

As for kids...the only time there is a problem is when he thinks the kid is a dog and tries to play with them like that. I dont understand it...but this is what we figured out.

The little dogs always instigate the problems with the bigger dogs because the bigger dogs know they can kill the little ones. Its a waste of their effort to get angry at them.
