Tax on Dell ??

i was trying to get the dell inspirion 1100 notebook. on the check out page i entered my location and no tax is added. it says my order total is $824. now right before i put in my credit card # i noticed the fine print.... "Configuration, pricing, tax, shipping and monthly payment information above is estimated and presented for your convenience only. All pricing, shipping and monthly payment information is subject to change without notice. Final order specifications and amounts, including tax and shipping, will be communicated following receipt of your online order."

what the hell is it supposed to mean ??? does it mean that dell will let me later how much they decide to charge me on tax ??!!! why can't they just tell me on the page that i have to add sales tax of 8.25% ?? i don't understand.... so is there tax or no tax on dell home??

Generally for Dell home there is no tax, but for Dell Small Business there is.

The tax on purchase from Dell Home Sales is there depending on what state you live in. They have jurisiction in several states (I know Texas, Idaho, Tennessee, and some others), so they have to charge it. The tax on small business purchases is supposed to be for businesses to report on their accounting statements, unless they're non-profit or other groups. They can talk to Dell directly and get tax-free status depending on the organization, and some people even get discounts (Dell employees get 10% off as well as UPS employees, since it's Dell's main contracted shipper).

it's usually a typical form that regardless of what zip you put in, will always tell you that there might be a tax charge for your purchase
