Maaann....rent SUCKS big time up in the Bay Area.......shooot I am currently looking for a place and the rates are OUTRAGOUSLY HIGH......I currently live in Hayward,Ca and I'm looking to move out cuz my roommate lacks common sense(if you do too then Ca =California)....but I'll leave that for another post....ANYWAYs....so I'm shopping for a another apartment and I call this 1-800 number where I find that there's a two bedroom for $450/month....shooot I was in SHOCK when I heard this..I almost pissed in my pants so I quickly ask all the spec.'s (you know sq.ft.,#of baths, any pets, etc.??)then when it comes down to asking how to get there the lady tells me they are located all the f#$@ing way in Indiana. I don't know how I got directed to Indiana but whateverrrr....... Maaaan.......here in Cali. a 2 bed is about 4-5 times that amount....BOttom line is RENT sucks here in the BAY area!! actually, let me rephrase that: it's $1200/month rent for a 7 bedroom house with 2 kitchens, 3 bathrooms, and a basement. Beat that man!!

Yeah, but didn't you say you were living in the ghetto, slaw?
I feel you, dogg. I'm paying 925 for a cracker jack box in LA of all places. 477 square foot studio. I mean, it's nice, and in a nice area, but still...that's almost as bad as The City! I live downtown, and I swear, LA has the strangest Downtown of all. At nights and on weekends, it is DEAD! No one. Not a soul.
The way I justify my rent is that I don't have to drive to work, and I go home for lunch. Still, tough to live on $45K when you're dropping almost $12k a year on your house. That doesn't include electricity either..

Yeah, I know what you mean about the SF property prices. My family, way back in the day, bought an apartment a block from Union Square. It's now worth close to a mill. It's cooler to own it, because when you visit, you're right down town, or if I move there, hello, rent free. But I cannot imagine trying to rent.
A funny story: one of my father's employees, his kid went down to work for an i-net start up. So he heads down to the local chinese supermarket, and I guess these places have message boards people post on there. So he calls one guy up, takes a look at the place: it's a house on Nob Hill, I think, that or Pacific Ridge (I forgot the locale, above USF). The rent: $400. Not only that, the guy that rents it out is in China for 4 months at a time He's been there 8 months, and the renter has stayed there a total of 7 nights. Is that phat or what? Not only that, he gets to keep his rent until he sees the guy next. Basically the guy just needed someone to keep up his place while he was away on business. You could still find a place like that, cross your fingers!

yeah, the bay area sucks as far a trying to find a place to live. it doesn t matter what city you are in. what the bay area has to offer as far as jobs and recreation more than makes up for it though. i've been all over the country, and i havent seen very many places that i could live after living here for so long.

Thumbs up

Yeah.....I agree...I grew up in the BAy Area and I don't think I could live anywhere else. For one thing this place never gets boring....there's always something to do no matter what time of year it is. The cost of living SUCKS though but I guess you can say it's a small price to pay......
