SS : water in the cell phone

I just got this new Sony Ericsson phone and it accidently fell in the sink! I got it out and dried it and everything, but now its not recognizing the sim card anymore (I have Cingular). It feels like wasted money now and I'm stuck with their contract! Man this sucks. Anyone know where I can find a cheap replacement phone??

how long did you let it dry? i once jumped into the lake with my phone in my pocket and got it to work later. I just left it on a vent overnight in pieces. When i put it back together the next day it worked.

I let it dry for like two days in pieces and it turns on and everything, but it doesn't recognize the sim. And I know my sim card still works cuz I put it in another phone and it reads it. Oh well...hmm, there should be a waterproof phone!

you probably just need to get a new sim card...
try getting your friends sim... and put it in your cell.. to see if it functions by itself...

well basically the point is to buy a sim card (25 dollars at most places) than buying a phone (alot of dough)

and... buddy.. if you just bought the phone ... it could be under warranty... (store has it for 1 month, manufacturers.. usually one year)

and.. since its cingular... buy insurance.. you'll end up loving this feature... tips and secrets can be taught on obtaining a trade up w/ insurance...but thats a different day

I don't think it's the SIM. Most likely, there is some corrision on the SIM reader. You should get a pencil eraser and scrub it against the contacts. This may remove the corrosion so your phone may work again.

If you bought the phone with a credit card, check with their cust service. Most credit cards offer some kind of warranty or damage protection.
