ESS: Still Sick & Broke my tooth

Extreme suckage suckage

I am STILL sick. I have not gotten any better (in fact, am feeling worse today. blah). I think it's a sinus infection and I'm tired of dealing with it, so I am going to the walk-in clinic tomorrow and going to see about getting some antibiotics.

Why tomorrow, you ask? Why not wait til Monday?

Because Monday I have to go to the dentist.

On the way home today from my parent's house, I was chewing piece of gum (sugarless, Extra, yummy), and felt a crunch. Took the gum out and there were pieces of the 1 ****ing filling I have. I was like, oh great... Felt around, didn't feel any other loose parts. Put another piece of gum in, hoping to get any remaining shaves of the filling that were loose or whatever and in seconds, out comes another 2 big pieces along with a piece of my tooth. blah. So there is a pointy part that keeps hurting my tongue. Obviously haven't exposed a nerve or anything (yet!), so am being very careful. Hope to call and go in on Monday and have a cap put on (I guess...).

i'm thinking you'll need a cap (crown) too. some dentists want to do a root canal in that situation first. i'd opt not to as long as the tooth isn't bothering you, b/c you can always have a root canal done through the crown if need be in the future.

if you can see the tooth when you smile tell 'em you want a porcelain crown. if not, go for the gold - it's more durable.

haha I'd love to have a gold tooth. *bling*

it's not bothering me, except like extremely cold liquids and like when I brushed my teeth. (****, that stung like a bitch!) Other than that, just normal temp water or food or whatever isn't hurting it. So yeah, unless he says no, you need to have one, I'll just do the crown.

Tell me this... Does a root canal (or hell, a crown for that matter) hurt?

Oh, and apparently it's NOT a sinus infection yet. Guy said it is just allergies (I'm like, it's the middle of the ****ing winter. But ok...). So got some Nasacort and Allegra D. I hate nose sprays. Dries my throat up bad. Oh well. What can you do?

root canals are a lengthy procedure, but they shouldn't hurt because you are numb. during a root canal the dentist just reams out the nerves in your tooth with a series of files. sounds barbaric, but has eliminated gazillions of toothaches.

for a crown you will need impressions taken of your teeth so they can pour up a model of them, and send the model to the lab to have a crown made. in the meantime you will have a temporary crown on your tooth until you can come in and have the permanent, lab-made one, cemented on. again, your tooth is numb, so no pain. sometimes getting the temporary crown off is a bitch, tho.

The root canal won't hurt during the proceedure, but you will be sore as hell afterwards. My wife has had a couple of them.

Get some painkillers to use the minute the anasthetic starts wearing off.

Ok, so here's the new suckage:

In October, not by choice, but because of something the insurance company decided, we had to switch plans. Just found out that even though we have had continual coverage from them for over a year now, we STILL have to deal with waiting periods. So a crown won't be covered until end of May (290 days after getting the new plan). WTF??

Ah, just asked Scott and here's why we had to switch. When we first got coverage, it was (still is) being paid for by Scott's work. But they just set it up as individual/family (I think we're the only family that is covered. Everyone else is individuals.) instead of having a group plan. But Blue Cross Blue Shields set it up like that, not Hubris (Scott's work). In September, BCBS said that wasn't working anymore, that Hubris needed to apply for group coverage, so everyone had to submit forms & apply to go for the group coverage. No big deal. BCBS's choice, not ours, etc. Still covered, same stuff, etc.

But because of THEIR ****, now I can't get a permanent crown and have it covered for 290 days???

if they make a good temporary one for you you could go along ok until then.
i don't know much about the insurance end of it, but insurance companies try their hardest to get OUT of paying for things.

Well, that was easy. Hopefully it worked.

He was able to fill it (using white filling rather than silver), and file it down, instead of having to do root canal or crown. Yay.

He took an x-ray, poked around, said looked ok. Numbed me up (shots didn't hurt at all, I was surprised) then filled & filed, etc. I'm still numb as hell. lol Kind of fun.
