Unhappy S: Down moods that come out of nowhere

I hate this. This is the first time I've been down in quite a while, but it's bad and I have no idea why I'm feeling this way. Life is good dammit!

*sigh* Hope it passes soon.

It's called Clinical Depression. Go see someone for it and get on something to help overcome it.

Ask your doctor to go on medicine if you feel comfortable. Heck, just try it for 1-3 months. I was prescribed Lexapro, which doesn't have too many side effects other than the arm that grew out of my stomach.

Modern medicine CAN help, even though I was opposed to it at first Good luck OC, it's easy to beat if you talk through it or correct some bad chemistry going on in your brain.

Oh Bull. Its perfectly natural to have periods of feeling down. Happens to me all the time. Stress could be a factor. Unless you're hearing voices or contemplating suicide, stay away from the meds.

Damn straight. I'm sick of the, "oh, you have ______. Medicine will make you all better." It's like poeple have forgotten that they can get well on their own.

I'm beginning to think it light-related. My last apartment was on the top floor with full western exposure and lots of privacy. I was able to leave my blinds open nearly all the time, so I always had plenty of light. My new place is on the ground floor, with other apartments nearby and people walking by. I've been keeping the blinds closed for privacy. I don't have curtains.

I think I'll ditch the blinds and get some sheer/translucent curtains that will let light in but sill allow privacy. That should help some.

For the record I agree, as long as "periods" are less than a month. In my case, I spent 2 month locked up in one room of my apartment, not wanting to see anyone and feeling down. I look back and think how f****d up that was , and was glad to get help.

If you have a bad week, medicine won't help you.

Drugs are bad, Mmkay?

Definately try adjusting your environment first. More light is a great start. If you have a lot of furniture that are dark woods or black, see about restaining it to be lighter or replacing it.

I've spen a lot of time being depressed. It sucks.

Apparently you've never read any of HIS POSTS. argh. OC is like the EYEORE of G|A (sorry oc)..he's always depressed over something..loosing this gal or that gal, apartment or job..boohooing over bosses, clients.only to turn around and have a WOOHOO post (as in WOOHOO i met a knew gal and i'm going to watch a movie with her and her boyfriend kind of thing..).I don't think I've ever seen a post that wasn't screaming for a big ass dose of Paxil. He's either clinically depressed-or Manic as hell. Either way, this has all been going on long before he decided to get light inducing curtains..ugh!
PS. Schizophrenics are more apt to hear the voices..not C.D.'s..as far as suicide goes-do ya THINK happy people commit suicide? No man-its the C.D's..and it's because they waited to long to get help-Of course it's natural to have down periods-I agree with that whole heartedly-but take a day to read all the melodramtic writings that OC has graced us with over the last year or two and I think maybe you'll see a pharmacy in his near future.

I think you're being a bit alarmist about OC's posts. I'm well aware he likes to discuss the ins and outs, ups and downs of his personal life, but I haven't read anything in them that looked to me like manic depression. He just seems to be an emotional guy who sometimes thinks too much about his relationships, and for some reason finds it therapeutic to post his life and thoughts for us all to gawk at. I see similarities between him and myself, I just don't post as much about the things going on in my life.

So in summary, he is a very open, but altogether rational person in my opinion.

I think that's a really fair stance on the meds issue cf. I don't know why I feel like I have to validate why I went on them, but heck, I want to. I did most of that as part of my normal life: have long talks with my sister on the phone, volunteered with my service fratnernity, was kept busy by school, tried to go out and be social, but after several months of that not working, that's when the DOC recommended I try medicine.

I was a little too quick to recommend to OC that he try it... sometimes I forget that I did try everything else before I resorted to it, as well as waiting several months.

I agree completely with zen. I think OC just is very vocal on here about how he is feeling. I am betting that most of us go through some of the same feelings he goes through with similar regularity, but that we just tend not to broadcast it. There's nothing wrong with him doing that. I think that is part of what helps him get past the moods he gets into.

What Zen and Jenny said.

I think everyone has cycles that can't be explained, and I think OC is just more vocal about his feelings.

And like cf said, keeping busy and getting into a different environment helps *a lot*.

If I find myself feeling like I'm going to start pacing the floor, I get into my car and head somewhere. The health club, a movie, a bar, even. The key is being around other people, even if you don't directly interact. Staying in your little cubbyhole doesn't do yourself any good.

I've had permanent problems as a result of going on Anti-depressants.

Now I get periods when I jittery (from Zoloft) or have excessively long adrenaline surges (from Imipramine).

These drugs are almost worse than the disease. If you aren't suicidal _do_not_ take them.
