I had 3 impacted (and sideways) wisdom teeth out at one time (the 4th got pulled many years earlier when it was coming through the front of my gum). The oral surgeon gave me the choice of local or general, and I asked if there was any advantage either way. He said that with local I would be able to help him more by keeping my neck stiff at times, and he guaranteed I wouldn't feel anything (and he could put me under in a moment if I wanted). So, I went with local and got to hear the cracks as he split the teeth (so he could pull them out in piecesthrough an incision he made). I'm glad I don't have any more of them to worry about.
