Hmm is that one of those door to door brands? We bought a Kirby Ultimate G from a door to door salesman, and supposedly we got it for quite a steal for $900 rather than the usual $2000. We love the expensive mofo.
I hope your vac will give you years and years of super suckage service. ![]()

Man, told you guys that Dyson rocks.
I love mine (though not as much as my Diaper Champ).

I've been looking also. They sell it at target but I don't see it on sale. I'm going to wait and probably use the 20% off coupon from Bed Bath and Beyond. Also have a dog so might get the "pet" version. Any reviews on that?

From what I've seen, the base vaccuum is the same no matter what version you get... the only difference is the attachments they give you.

Consumer Reports wasn't impressed by the Dyson, is this one of the rare occasions where they were wrong?

Actually, through his work, my darling husband won a $350 gift certificate to anywhere he wanted. Being the wonderful guy he is, he chose best buy, since he knew I've been wanting this vacuum.

I originally bought the pet one, but returned it for the normal one. Wasn't worth the price difference for me (and I have 2 akitas in the house).

No, there are a bunch of different ones, but in the USA, we only get 4 of them, all uprights. The yellow is the basic one (which I have). The red is the model up from it, with an added floor tool. The purple one is often called the animal one, and has the floor tool, the animal turbo tool, and a carpet care kit. The top of the line one is green, which has all of the things that come with the animal model plus an extended warranty. http://www.dyson.com/range/range.asp Here's the basic performance difference: http://www.dyson.com/nav/inpageframe...LONE/PERF/PERF |

![]() i mean, i'm aware that consumer reports has their biases, and i don't generally look at them for policy advocacy, but i've never seen their product tests and reliability ratings to be unreliable. and debunking of their positions through the use of short selections from random media/science sources by someone from the cato institute isn't exactly persuasive in my opinion. |

Man, you should read CR's electronics and home theater section. That stuff is really REALLY far off.

Their appliance ratings aren't that far off though.

Yeah, not the best example. I tried to link to Consumerdistorts.com which used to be a fantastic site about why 90% of they stuff that CR reports is pure crap, but apparently the site is no longer around. While some of their findings may be right on the mark, the sheer volume of BS they publish overshadows it. |

hmmm....interesting.
i agree with apex that their HT ratings are screwed up, but it always seemed to me that they were giving more weight to other factors (price, reliability, etc) than sound/pic quality that us junkies look at. although honestly i must say that i haven't looked at a consumers reports in probably 3 years or more...... the one place i have found them excellent is in their used car reliability reports. i (and my family) have owned a lot of used cars and our experience has almost universally matched with the recommendations that CR has made (generally, asian-made cars are highly reliable, domestic cars not so much) |

The issue I guess, is how much of an enthusiast you are. If you actually know something about the subject, CR is probably way way off. Heck, I bet there are some washing machine aficionados who totally scoff at CR's ratings.
But say you know nothing about audio. Bose may sound good to you. |

is that possible? ![]() i think you make a good point. let's say you're an enthusiast about Saabs and so you've owned a 1985 Saab 900 since it was new and taked perfect care of it. you'd probably say "Saabs aren't unreliable if you treat them right. CR is full of crap! they just talk to dumb people who don't care for their cars!" in the same way, i suppose that if you have a ton of money to spare, don't know what good sound is, and place a high priority on buying speakers that are 2" square or less, you may find CR's endorsement of Bose to be so appropo. so for someone like me, who doesn't give two craps about toasters or vacuum cleaners, if CR says that something is reliable and a best buy, i'm probably going to be pretty happy with it. |

After sitting on my butt about it I bought the yellow Dyson rom Linen and Things. I used the 20% Bed Bath & Beyond off coupon (which now says not applicable to Dyson products) and $100 GC I got from AMEX when I traded in my points. So it came out to be like $240.
It works really well. I think I vacuumed about a small patch of 6 feet by 3 feet and the thing was full of very very fine dust particles about 1.5 inches deep and I guess dog hair and crap taking up the rest. Now I'm just worried about dumping the crap into a trashbag and closing the bottom lid up. I don't want a full Swoosh of dust hitting my face. Guess I could wear a SARS-type mask and some goggles. We'll see I guess. Oh and like how the box was designed kinda...they have these "tabs" that you can insert into pre-cut slots so I guess it could be reusable but the Dyson is pretty heavy so I'm sure it'll just fall out. |
