Thumbs up NSS: I LOVE Audible.com

I was working on coupons last night and came across a deal for Audible.com (audiobooks for those that don't know). You get a month's trial plus 2 audiobook downloads for 99¢! Now, I was wary at first. I didn't want to find out that you could only download them and play them on THEIR player on YOUR computer. (Like some music download things)

I did some reading and figured out that no, not only could you download them and use them on almost any handheld device, you can burn them to cd and play anywhere. Plus, they have different qualities that you can download, from telephone like quality to mp3, and it just means the lower format are smaller sized.

I downloaded R Is For Ricochet by Sue Grafton and Ten Big Ones by Janet Evanovich. Both have been out for not too long and I've wanted to buy them and just couldn't spend the money.

So I got both of those for 99¢! You can cancel easily right away, although I have several books I want so I may keep mine open for a month and pay for a few more.

Click here at AUDIBLE.COM click Start Now, then select Premium.

I burned part 1 of R Is For Ricochet last night and am burning part 2 now. (I chose the highest quality available for that one, 4 out of 5, and it was 5 cd's for each part.)

I love love love this site! Check it out!

Thanks for the review, Jenny. I was thinking about buying a couple books from them when the coupon was out for Bill Clinton's book.

I was also considering subscribing to a show like "Wait Wait Don't Tell Me"-- does anyone have experience with buying a subscription from them?

I have had a subscription with them since Feb. Its really cool - espcially if you have a PDA/musicbox that plays their files. I have the basic membership that gives me one book and one subscription per month. I've gotten the WSJ morning read - which is really cool if you have to commute to work in the morning.

BTW caribiner, not sure if you're aware of this, but you can listen to "Wait wait" online (http://www.npr.org/programs/waitwait/) along with a bunch of other NPR programs... for free.

Thanks, dj. I may try the subscription.

I know about the free feeds on NPR-- I'm looking for an easy way to download the shows to my iPod so I can listen during my commute. Right now, I rip them from the streaming audio on NPR's site using Total Recorder, but it's kind of a pain-- I'm lazy and I'd rather just download it.

Chalk up another big fan of audible here too. The big benefit to me is that many of the audiobooks are available in an unabridged format. The kind you buy at most retail stores are almost always abridged, and I feel like they are just "skimming" the story.

I highly recommend "The Company" by Robert Littel. 36 CDs and worth every minute.

The only suckage is that you can't re-sell the books when you are done with them. I haven't listened to any of them more than once, so now I have several spindles of CDs full of audiobooks just taking up space...

Hmm, what would be neat is if we sent them to each other after we are finished (not just you & me but whoever on here wants to share. ). No worse than sharing books with a friend I'm guessing...

Anyone else interested?

Personnally I'm trying pretty hard (and succeeding) to keep my software and content legal. Please don't tempt me.

If you use the cancel option online, it will offer you a $10.00 credit to stick around.
