SSS & some NSS

My 200GB WD HD is giving me errors...its just 1 month past warrenty...it has 105GB of .wav files (206 full albums). The drive with my music collection is about to die.

The NSS...

I have a few spare 40GB drives to back it up to before it goes kaput. The errors are writing errors and it seems to read from the drive fine. Just need it to continue reading for a few more hours.

im not worried about storage as the 200 was for archiving and i recently purchased a dual layer burner. So between the smaller spare drives...and the DVD copy I will make, I feel fairly safe. It just really sucks that the drive died 1 month after the 1 year warrenty. Its not even used that often.

Are you burning the files to dual layer media? If you asked me, that would be a waste of money (at around $6 each for dual layer as compared to $.30 for single layer).

Yeah, dual media hasn't gotten cheap enough yet to justify its cost. My burner will support it, but I've never paid for any yet. The only way I could think that someone might be willing to pay is if they had something that could only be burned to a single piece of media.

If it's only 1 month out of warranty, call them up & ask them to replace it anyway. Some places are a little flexible about that.
