Unhappy S: Mom's Car got stolen

It's a 1999 Toyota Rav4 and was parked near her workplace. When she came back from work, the car was missing and also the keys in her bag.. Looks like someone stole her keys or she probally dropped it near the car.. Its a big mess without the car. She needs a SUV for the work and it costs around $40 everday. The insurance company only reimburses $20 for rental car everyday and so she is going to pay $20 out of her own pocket. The insurance tells her that its going to take 3-4 weeks to process a claim and send a check. Thats really long and looks like she will be shelling out $500 just on rental cars. THen she has to pay a $500 deductible. The blue book value is around $11000 but the insurance company told her that they will go according to the pennsylvania state value and trade in value and it looks around that she will be getting only $5000-6000.. Does anyone know how the insurance company handles stolen car claims, how long will it take ot process and how much will she get?? she has full coverage...

They only want to give her trade in value? That's bad, really bad. They should give her fair market value. I'd haise heck about that.

What car insurance company is she using? That sounds like pretty crappy Customer service.

In any case, you can fight and argue for the full "Replacement value" of a like vehicle (look at autotrader or a toyota dealer for a used 99 RAV4) and counter with that value.

By the way, the experience I have seen with friends on State Farm. If and when the car is found, they can cut the check on the spot if the value is agreed upon. The values are usually agreed upon near the replacement value of the car, not bluebook, etc. If the car isn't found by the police, then they wait a few days to around 2 weeks before they process the claim and cut you a check.

The customer service varies widely from company to company.

Perhaps because the thief had the keys?

If she needs a SUV for work then unless it was a requirement for her position then she should have them pay the difference between the regular rental car and the SUV. As others have said, it should be for the replacement cost of the car in similar condition. If she had really high miles, the amount would be for a car with similar miles.
