S: Rice cooker died!

And I only had it for a few months! Grrrr....

Anyone have any idea why it wouldn't work anymore. I plug it in and it doesn't even warm anymore. And it has a burnt electronics smell to it.

I don't think this'll stop anything though - the better you idiot-proof a system, the more impressive the idiot becomes.

could be the switch. if there is one, you could bypass it and just plug/unplug the cord to turn it off and on. it maybe a tweaker project taking the thing apart though. if somthing else burned out like the tranformer(and they smell bad when fried)its pretty much junk.

If your rice cooker is one of those non-electronic controlled units, then the innards should be quite simple. From what you've described, it seems that the thermal fuse might have blown. One common cause of a blown thermal fuse is a dented inner pot (the pot that actually holds the rice), which would disrupt the heat transfer from the heating element to the cooking rice. This would cause the inner cavity of the rice cooker to reach a high enough temperature to burn out the safety thermal fuse.

If your rice cooker is one of the more fancy types, the electronics might also be problematic.

AFAIK, most manufacturers allow you to return your product for repairs. Check with your instruction booklet.

You can also make rice in regular pot. If you accidently use too much water.... Bamm, you now have jook.

I loves me some rice. Wild rice (not really rice), brown, white, basmati, jasmine. Whateva. Just as long as I have enough Kikkoman!

I don't know what I'd do if I didn't have a rice cooker.
