SS: Hail Storm

Got caught in a hail storm yesterday on I-44 in Tulsa. Golfball and larger hail.. cracked my windshield and damaged every body panel except the doors. Haven't made it by a body shop yet for estimates and the insurance adjusters are already backed up two weeks. I'm guessing about 3-4K in damage. The crappy part is rental reimbursement was somehow removed from my policy (gotta figure out wtf happened there).

Yeah, that sucks. When that happened to us a few years ago, we found the best thing was to pocket the insurance check and sell the car as-is, since there was such a back-log at body shops for repair.

On the plus side, we received a fair amount of damage to the roof of our 7 ft tall van. We got a check for $1,500 for that damage and just paid it on the loan. The van still has the dents on the roof, but nobody can see it.

I have never seen hail that big. From the sounds of the damage to your vehicle, I don't want to. I will just stick with the periodic rain storm in San Diego.

The car is worth about 17K and we still owe about 11K. We will be getting it fixed.. hoping to get a bodyshop check, then take it to a paintless dent repair place. Our deductible is 1K, so I'm hoping to get enough from insurance to cover paintless dent repair.

We were one of the lucky ones.. several cars around us had their windshields completely busted out.. giant holes in them and people were getting hurt. we have a sun roof and i really thought we were going to get whacked in the head when it busted. Our Honda was a bit tougher than I thought.

I could try to sell it, but I doubt I'd be able to sell it for much with all the damage. I think I just want to get it fixed and drive it till the wheels fall off.

If I can get some decent pics I'll post them.

sometimes acts of nature do not require a deductible. you might get lucky.

I'll have to double check my policy, but they did indicate that the deductable applies. Anyone else with Allstate know?

If your deductible applies, that sucks. We had a $50 deductible for stuff like that.

If I remember correctly, our hail damage was paid by the Comprehensive coverage in our policy, not the Collision coverage.

Perhaps it makes a difference if you're driving while the damage happens? Our vehicles were parked at the time.
