Angry Another kid lost to Ca high prices

Well, I am boohooing today because my youngest son and his wife and daughter have moved to Colorado. And of course the reason they have moved is because they could not afford to buy a house in California. It makes me so mad. All our friends are losing kids to states with lower housing and gas prices. So now my middle granddaughter(2 1/2) is moving away from Mammo.
And of course she doesn't understand. This morning she kept telling me"I'll be back,Mammo" Not realizing ,she will be back but not until Christmas. It almost makes me want to take up drinking. So, be thankful if your kids are with you. And shake your heading knowingly if they aren't.

i'm so sorry... any chance you could buy them a house?

we're planning on staying as close to (thankfully midwestern) fambly as possible... there is no substitute for a good gramma.

and you might want to get this thread put in some other forum... suckage/nss or OT?

They have all ready bought a house in Castle Rock, just outside of denver. 1954 sq. ft. 3 br,2 bath full basement. $198,000 You can't get an outhouse in Ca for that much. I am glad for them. Just sad for grandma & Grandpa. We have babysat for this little one since she was 6 months old and mom went back to work. So it is a little hard but we will survive. Thanks for the good thoughts. It took me all morning to figure out how to do a new thread. I wouldn't have a clue how to move it!!

No no, not at all! You've been fine RW!

Are your other kids/grandkids there near you in Cali?

When my hubby & I got married, his sister & her family (husband & 2 year old daughter) lived in the same town as my in-laws. Shortly after we got married, they moved to another state (from Kansas to Iowa). It was hard on my in-laws cause they had spent the first 2 years of my niece's life in the same town. Then when I got pregnant, we needed to save up some money quick to pay off debts, so we moved in with my in-laws (moved from another town cause Scott found a job there). After several months, we got our own apartment, then stayed in Garden City til Josh had turned 5. When we moved here to Wichita, I know it was incredibly hard on them.

I hear you, it sucks that housing prices have skyrocketed, but there are a few places still in Cal that are not that bad, Riverside, Fresno, maybe further up north, I am not sure. What we paid for a house in OC we could have gotten a mansion in Fresno. But than again.... its Fresno

perhaps they will move back after awhile. I want to keep in contact with my family, even though we are now scattered, sister is in the Bay Area, I'm in So Cal, parents in Fresno. Hope it all works it, in fact I know it will one way or another for you.

I don't expect them to move back. My son has always wanted to live in Colorado. Plus he has an uncle, aunt and cousins there. So it is good for him. We are already planning a trip in June. Its just hard to see the grandkids go. I still have a granddaughter in Borrego Springs and one here in San Diego. So
I guess I shouldn't complain But what fun is not complaining??NONE But thanks to everyone for the good thoughts and to Airencracken for moving this to the right spot.

Yeah, it's relatively expensive, but probably cheap coming from a California point of view. Coming from a midwest point of view it's very expensive all along the Front Range.

my wife and i went looking at houses this weekend just to peruse the open houses. i own my home but we could get a mansion elsewhere for the same money. moving out to my company's HQ in Michigan is starting to look more attractive. a huge house there with lots of land is half the price of my 2 bedroom, 1.5 bath townhouse.

there isn't enough money to get us to move to colorado. the old man has
seen enough snow to last until he is 108 and I can't handle the altitude. My kid is in Castle Rock . His bay window looks from the living room at a golf course. Can't get that in Ca for $198,000 Besides I am morally against cheering for the Denver Broncos!

Yeah...speaking of LV, what's going on over there? I remember several years ago people saying how housing is cheap and there are too many jobs for people to fill (due to the casinos). How has that changed?

denver doesn't get as much snow as you might think. don't compare the snow the resorts get with the temps/snowfall of the lower high desert area that denver's in. they get a ton of sun which is awesome! i live in kalamazoo and get far more snow and cold temps than denver does.

and the castle rock area (basically between denver and colorado springs) is an awesome area.

The first 4 hours my husband was there (last Sunday) they got 6 inches. But The next day sun came out and snow started melting. But I can't do anything about the altitude. We are going in June for gdaughters birthday and I hope I am able to do something besides take drugs and lie in bed. My son did say Denver has more sunny days per year then any other city in the U.S. I am getting used to them being gone and it really is probably a good thing for them especially my son. He may have to grow up a little more now that Mom and Dad aren't there to help. I am sure all will work out in the end. Grandma will just be on the phone alot.

For some reason when I am in Denver I get migranes. Never get them any where else. The doc thinks they are probably related to my Vertigo. I usually take Vicodan if its really bad or Midrin if it is a small one. And yes the altitude does contribute as you said ,thin air.

Both times I have gone to Denver it has been on extended vacation trips and we were driving. I am going to go because I refuse to let my body keep me down. But a headache free trip would be nice. And we will be driving again because my mom is going w/us and she will not get on a plane. At least I know I come by my stubborness naturally!

i usually get a headache the first day i go there also. esp. if i go north right away. i just take some pills, drink a lot of water, and avoid alcohol the first couple days and it's gone.

Make sure to drink a lot of water, that usually helps with the altitude.

Drink gatorade and keep yourself WELL hydrated. The headaches are due to a lack of oxygen (or less quantities). I'm not sure if you can get bottles of oxygen, but that would help to.

Back in high school, our band took a week long ski trip to Colorado (Breckenridge). Many people, including me and my brother, had headaches, and some even had to go to the hospital where they were given oxygen. Once they got back, they felt 1000 times better. I wished I could have taken a trip to the hospital as well.

On the last day, I bought some gatorade and soon after I felt better. Water will work, but i think gatorade does help more.

Thanks. I don't drink alcohol (I'm the driver) so that will be easy for me. On a side trip,Cubsfan, nice split yesterday.

Thanks to you as well.I will be sure and takes lots of both. And actually I do have a bottle of oxygen from my dad's last days. I will have to see if I can get it refilled to have on hand. Great suggestion.

Well, the Wednesday is almost here and we will be leaving to drive to Colorado to see my granddaughter for her birthday. I can't wait to get on the road. Lauren is going to be 3 on fathers Day and still doesn't quite understand why she can talk to me on the phone but can't go to my house. It has only been 2 months since she left and it feels like 2 years. We are taking our older granddaughter (5) with us so she can also see her cousin. We will be there for 2 1/2 weeks. COLORADO HERE I COME
