SS: Eyewear Repair

I sat on my expensive glasses about a month ago. The weld at the corner broke leaving the detached swivel in perfect condition. Plus the part which goes over the ear broke.

Since the frames were several years old, I couldn't find a replacement.

I tried soldering the piece but it didn't hold. I also tried different epoxies which failed.

So I looked on the internet and found this place in Atlanta http://www.eyewearrepair.com who laser welds broken frames. They normally charge $29.95 for the service.

I called them and then sent the glasses via certified insured mail.

I waited for a week and they said that they would repair them for $39.95 plus $36 for a matched set of ear thingys. They said they would send them out last Thursday. Well, it was nearly a week so I decided to call them yesterday.

The guy claims he didn't know whether they were shipped or not, but they were definitely not there. He said he would call me or eMail me with a tracking number. I waited until yesterday and Nothing!

I decided to call the BBB of Atlanta who stated that they have an unfavorable rating and that they are listed as a mortgage company. I also noticed that Amazon previously listed them as a link but no longer does.

They were on the top of the first page of Google Search two weeks ago. Now I don't know where they are.

I called the credit card company who recommended that I get a new card, which I did. They will also be sending me a package to dispute the charge since I will probably not receive the repaired glasses.

for 30 bucks you can go to walmart-get updated frames and have your present lenses adjusted to fit them...why would you send your glasses to a place you didn't research through the BBB? What? no local places in your area that fix frames? GAWD are you that cheap????
PERHAPS IF YOU HAD A WIFE (and I hear nickel is available)..she could have directed you as to what to do with your frames..talk about seeing things out your arse..*shakes head*..

No ,there are no places near me who do that kind of repair. My frames are no longer produced. I checked a few places before I decided to go the repair route. And like I said, Amazon had the link to that site, so I figured it would be legit.

And if I was married, God knows what kind of crappy advice I would get. One thing for sure, it wouldn't be from a person like you. Typical bimbo response!

It's like springtime around here, with all of this love in the air!

I know what you mean though, Johnny - when I have a pair of glasses I really like, I HATE switching to new frames. Such a hassle. I don't see them as a fashion statement, but something functional. When I find frames I like, I'll keep them for as long as I can.

why i gotta be brought into this?

i'd love to help johnny out but not in that way.

johnny, here's what i do with something like that. i ask friends in real life and on the net to recommend some place they have gone to for what i need done. i don't think i would ever just goggle a place up and send something out for repair like that.

is this company just an internet site or do they have a brick&mortar location?

ever thought of getting contacts? you'd look nice in some tinted ones.

puhlease. obby's cool. she's pretty much the antithesis of a bimbo. bimbo's certainly aren't equipped to deal with all the house and husband stuff she's been through. and i certainly don't know any bimbo's that can come up w/a meal plan like she does.

altho'...she did teach cheerleading didn't she? hmmm.....

why cheapie you're just a sweet lil button aren't ya..
I miss my cheerleaders that's for sure..the husband..well, I don't miss him since I see him all the time (we are still friends)..
and the meal plans are just another way of telling my family how great I think they are..
..as far as the house goes-I had the contractors here this morning, and we are looking at at LEAST 9800 dollars in repairs-the entire bathroom has to be floor-gutted to have a new subfloor put in (DAMN)..and then we they have toto bring all the plumbing up to code (half copper, half lead) with some kind of new-better -than-copper material which is like some kind of aluminum covered in a durable plastic (think-milk jug plastic)..
It's top of the line according to the the two guys I talked to today (two different estimates both came up only a few dollars short of each other)..
so I figure-as long as it's costing me an arm and a leg-I'm going to go ahead and have the bathroom gutted, and redone in the same era style utilities, Cabinets and window style, that are original to the house (did you know they make claw foot style whirlpool tubs now? YAYY)..It's one of the few rooms here that wasn't redone when we purchased the house..It will be nice when it's done..I wonder if marble floors would work..

YES, and my advice to you all is to NOT EVER GO WITH STATE FARM..
The appraiser was here yesterday morning, and according to her (some 20 year old girl who knows home repair like jack squat)-she is saying that the only thing covered will be the ceiling that came tumbling down (materials and labor) which she estimated at 599 dollars (LOL) ..because pipe leaks are considered maintenance and any structural removal that was not directly affected by the leak is NOT covered..hmmm. I'm fighting this one all the way to the bank that's for sure..I'm paying out the arse for home owners and they don't want to pay..perhaps I should have just flooded the place with a garden hose and called it a day-that they would have paid 100% for. Can you believe that?
Ps..the contractor that I've decided to go with has given me some pointers as to dealing with state farm..he even agreed to fight the cause for me if he has too because he said they do this all the time.

obby, there are mediators who will fight for you. They get a cut of the award. Most people don't know about them, but it appears that insurance companies are pretty scared of them.

Thanks for the info..I think that between myself and the contractor there "shouldn't" be a problem getting them to pay as long as he can state for the record that the leak was not intentional and that seems to be the underlying cause for them not wanting to pay up..(the claims adjuster even told me that as an example-if I turned my washer on, left the house, and the thing overflowed because i jam packed it full of clothes and suds-EVERYTHING would be covered under the policy-including the cost of a new washer if need be...HOW RIDICULOUS)..
on the other hand-if there is a problem, a little bit more info on these mediators of yours would be a great help.
Thanks.

Alright lets keep it cool lovebirds.

FYI old man, While the soaps may be your bag-I'd rather do constructive things, and even on my least constructive days I wouldn't watch soaps because they are silly, predictable, and Boring. Who would rather be sitting staring at someone's FAKE life if they can go on and have their own-which I do..IF I do watch TV which isn't often,And almost never during the day(unless I want to watch Sylvia Brown on Montel on occasion) this is the list of what I would watch:
Survivor
Amazing Race
News
Old black and white movies
Any good Jazz specials
and on occasion, a more recent movie like Maid in Manhattan...
Oh, and the occasional Bull Riding, Hunting, or fishing show..
and since I've been kind of housebound, and haven't been going anywhere but the Doctors offices lately, I've gotten into the habit of turning Daily Mass on at Noon. I don't need to sit and watch it..I can be ironing or sewing in the other room and I can listen to it. I'd rather have the radio on to a seriously good AM Station that plays classic hits from Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Etta James...or the All Jazz channel. So there.

So I get a call last week from the firm in Atlanta wanting to know where they can ship the reapaired glasses. I said :Wha? It's been over three weeks since I called you!!" He said he was away for a week.

Anyway, I received them today. The CC company gave me a credit last month and sent me a form regarding the problem. I am going to call them and tell them to reinstate the charges. But only after I wear them a few days to see if they work properly.
