SS: Comcast

Ok, so I ordered comcast cable and the guy on the phone asked me how many TVs I have. I told him "1" b/c that is all I have right now. He asked me this question when he was trying to sell me on a DVR and some other bs. Needless to say when the installer came to "turn-on" the cable he disconnected all of my other cable connections and put locking terminators on the splitter so I could not reconnect them. I saw what he was doing and said WTF? He said I only paid to have 1 TV installed. I asked how much more to get the others connected and he said $20 per cable outlet. He then said he couldn't connect any more than 1 b/c I didn't order it. I said "$20 for what? It took you more work to disconnect the already connected lines." I hate comcast. I think I am going back to the dish. Freakin' idiots.

I'm not really sure what the situation is, but call and complain. If nothing else, tell them that you were going to use that location as a hub for a CCTV system (assuming they've taken away possibilties of doing this). Threaten to cancel your service if they won't fix it (sounds like you're ready to anyway).

For what it's worth, I hate Comcast too.

They tried to do this to me once and also put a lock on the outside cable box. I told them if they don't take off the lock by the next business day I was going to cut it and cancel the service and dispute the charges. The lock was off by the next day and no problems since. What a joke to charge 20 to hook up a line.

Is that box the homeowner's property? I am pi$$ed that I do not have access to my connections on the outside of my house.

I would think that it is. The line coming TO your house is probably Comcast's, but I really can't see how the splitters and other internal wiring can also belong to Comcast.

That sounds bogus, call and complain for sure.

I was so furious when they did that I went to the builder since my home was new and asked about that. The box on the house where the connections are is homeowner property. The line coming in from the ground does belong to comcast. But since satellite is now more common, they have no right to the other connections. Like the above you may want to get satellite as well. Call ask for a manager. If they give you grief ask for their manager, and so on. Continue asking. If they give you a bunch of BS tell them you will cancel and go to Dish or Direct TV. They usually will change their tone.

A$$hats. If you've seen any of their "Comcastic" commercials, you'd think they're the best thing since TV itself. They're lying, stinking, weasels.

I don't get it. If you have multiple cable outlets in your home, they can put these widgets into the coax connection and prevent you from getting cable from the that connection? Wonder if you wanted to move the tv to another room?

So they can't do this and they charge you per coax outlet? I have Comcast and for some stupid reason I have 3 coax outlets that get cable but no coax connections in any other room. Is using a splitter illegal or something? Because you can pick one up for a few bucks at Best Buy or Radio Shack.

It shouldn't. Time Warner let's us split signals in our attic and didn't charge extra for the extra TVs.

I swear Comcast's decoders and PVR suck big d**k too.

Once the signal enters your home, it is yours to do with as you please so long as it stays in your home and you do not decrypt any signals.

Call them and tell them that capping off the extra cable lines was unauthorized work and you demand they immediately return and undo it. Do not accept a new apointment, get them there tonight. If they do not, stop payment on the check. Tell them that the lock comes off too, if is there tomorrow it gets cut. You didn't agree to it.
If they claim you did by signing the contract, counter that it was not mentioned at all and you were deliberately deceived.

I endure Comcast, but I'm no big fan. I've got them for internet, basic cable (since it's cheaper to have the two than just the internet) and digital phone.

At first I just had internet. When I added the telephone, the installer asked my wife if we had cable TV. She said "No", so he disconnected the internet. It was going to take Comcast something like 4 days to get someone to come back to reconnect the internet, but I saw a Comcast van a few doors down and asked the guy if he could help (and he did swing by and fix things for me).

One thing I hate about Comcast is that if you have a service outage, you have to call them to request a credit (even though they already know who was out for how long). And I have to call the Comcast telephone people separately from the internet/tv people, because they are on different systems. I can have my internet/tv bill automatically charged to a credit card, but Comcast telephone does not offer this service (I have to send them a check every month). They are a very disorganized, disjointed company.

Update: I talked to comcast this morning and they apoligized for the mistake. The person was really helpful (enough so that after the problem is fixed I am writing a letter b/c of the assistance) and they setup someone to come out either Sunday or Monday to unlock the box and reconnect the disconnected connections.

Well gald to see it worked out. The problem is if they didn't screw with it in the first place and left it alone they do not have to waste anyone's time. Why can't they just get it right the first time its much easier and people are a lot less pissed.

No doubt. I will know when I get home if the cable box is back to the way it was.
