GE service contracts are idiots

Theoretically here....you bring me a mercedes benz S class that has been deemed a lemon under an extended contract which you bought. The contract gives you included maintenance, perks, and other specific rights in the event your car is brought in. The company that sold you the contract goes under, but it was backed by another company.

Your car went in before the company went under, but you didnt get a chance to come pick out your new S class until after the dissolution. The lot is still open and running, but by a liquidator, not the company and they tell you to screw off, talk to the other company.

You contact the other company and after much back and forth, they end up telling you that you have been authorized for a replacement Chevy. You tell them that while both are cars and do the same thing, your old unit was much higher quality and not even in the same realm as the Chevy. The contract company says that the warranty only says they will replace it with a similar unit, not the same unit. Plus, if you want you can find your same model/yr for what the Chevy costs. Its from an unknown source and has been in an accident, but repaired to standard condition.

That is basically what GE is doing to me wtih my freaking DVD changer! I am about 2 seconds away from taking a road trip with a large wooden bat and a larger aluminum bat. I think I can give them an INDEPTH demonstration on how two things that do the same thing can be VERY different. But I dont want to get to know Bubba, so that might be the wrong idea.

These idiots are doing standard web searches to look for the unit....they come up with old sites of reviews and claim, oh they have it in stock for X amount which was the last discounted sale price. I am SO pissed.

Contact the BBB.
If you aren't satisfied, you're a lawyer... ask for their attourney of record. Then file against them. That's why we have courts, for when people don't live up to their legal obligations.

Its great when you ask for their contact people and they refuse to give them to you. I have to decide how much of a fight I want to put up here. Theoretically, I am down $150+ with their current offer, but I am not sure if the contract wll favor me or them in court. It might be worth the loss just to be done with them.

If they refuse, file and notify the court they refused to give you contact info for their legal services. Since when is hiding your lawyer a way to avoid getting sued?

Decided to dust off this problem for another go round today. I call them and point blank ask for their attorney contact representing their division. Only to be told, that I should contact an attorney and they will have it. When I state that I AM AN ATTORNEY and that with multi-conglomerate multi-division corporations such as GE, finding out which division/legal department is the correct is most easily done by asking, the guy pont blank repeated, if you are an attorney you can find it. This of course pissed me off, so I calmly explained the method that most corporations legal departments are located and that there was no way to determine if the GE legal department covered them. The guy said, have fun. I then asked for the corporate contact information...he refused once again, finally saying that the main headquarters is in Conneticut. Nothing comes up on the website that was useful, so I googled it. A bunch of GE numbers came up in that area. The first two were people I apparently scared to death with questions for their legal departments. Turns out they had nothing to do with the main GE and seemed like they may have been small offshoots. The second guy gave me the main contact number for the GE group I wanted. Great.

I call that number and the person has no clue that GE even backs warranties! After 8 fruitless minutes, the woman transfers me to another woman...who thinks I may want the insurance division. I explain that I doubt the insurance division does warranty backups, can I please have the legal department. She asks me why and promptly puts me on hold. 7 minutes of quiet later and I hear, Welcome to GE's corporate headquarters. Back at square 1. Time to try a different tact.

First, I try reaching the corporate offices of GG/Compusa - useless. Then, I decide that it may be worth trying to use the 800 numbers I already have and try reverse lookup. Nope. Then I google it again, changing my search parameters and I come up with a different GE division that covers appliance warranties. Hmmm. I know that the phone system mentions appliances.....its a different number....in fact, its the head number.

Sure enough, its the right division! In fact, she gives me the corporate contact information and says that is going to be my best bet. So I have one more step to try before sending it to legal. Which I managed to find since I now knew the division!

All in all, another wasted hour of time...because the arsehole wouldnt tell me the official division name!

Don't think wasted... think billable.

Record all the time you work on this you, think about it before bed... that's 10 minutes of billable time.
When you finaly get resolution, bill them for your time.
