Angry SS: Cyberpower Inc, totally sucks....Rip off

I had some serious problem with my laptop like its overheating and turning off, The laptop is freezing, The dvd rom is making some screeching noise when trying to read DVDs or cds, The wifi is getting disconnected all the time and the touchpad is skipping a lot. The laptop is actually not slow in terms of specifications... Its a Pentium M 2.0ghz, 1 gb ddr ram etc..

So I contacted them and RMA'ed the laptop, Received it after 4 weeks. I have the exact same problem. They didnt fix the problem. They didnt even re-install windows or do anything. NOT even update the drivers. I called them after 2 days after I received the laptop from RMA, they told me to re-install all the drivers. I did that and I kept calling them back. Then they told me to re-install Windows. I also did that and still no fix. They kept giving me some stupid answer all the time.

I was talking to their RMA department guy when I had the problem with the laptop before I RMA'ed it and he told me to contact the tech support and ask to be RMA'ed it again(Second Time). Today I called them, They tell me that the warranty has expired and they wont do anything. I also talked to their tech support manager and I fought with him, he kept telling me that the warranty has expired. I contacted them 2 months ago with the problem. The tech support manager told me that I was lying and I never contacted them after I received the laptop. I called them several times.

SO I called the RMA guy that I talked with before and he put me on hold for 3 mins to talk to the manager. He told that the manager is his BOSS and he cannot do anything to solve the problem, He told me that the best suggestion he could give me is to file a BBB and FTC complaint against the company. He also told me that the company is a BBB registered company and they should fix it if you file the complaint. I did file a BBB and FTC complaint.

Any other suggestions on how to proceed with the problem?

Cliffnotes: Had some problem with the laptop, I RMA'ed it and they didnt fix it. Contacted Tech support for 2 weeks trying to fix the problem. The RMA guy told me that I should contact tech support and RMA it again. I called them today, they tell me the warranty has expired and they wont do anything..

Bought it from [L=http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/]http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/[/L] Its an Explorer U3-2000

So I ordered this laptop for my mom and she is eating my head off now... She wants my laptop till I get hers fixed. I need my laptop everyday for school but I had to give it to her. So I have some weird problem with my desktop and my laptop goes to me mom. I gotta use my freakin PDA now.

Your mom is willing to let your schoolwork suffer because the laptop you ordered her is having problems?
Next time make her order her own laptop. And tell her you can't spare yours. If she wanted a more reliable one she should have spent the extra bucks on a Toshiba.

Life is hard enough as a student without your own mom sabotaging you.

The trick of them just holding the laptop untill the waranty expired and sending it back is entirely bogus. I hope the BBB reams them.

well I am really not complaing about her taking my laptop.. She was waiting for her laptop to get fixed for more than 2 months...

Cyberpower didnt fix the laptop when I sent it for RMA, I called them everyday and they wouldnt give me an RMA to ship it back but kept telling me to try stupid steps to solve it... Finally when the warranty runs out, they tell me to F*** off... Dirty trick.....

I really hope BBB can help me out...

BBB doesn't step in... they just list complaints. Did you happen to buy it with a credit card that extends the mfr warranty?

A legit company will continue working on an issue that was not fixed right the first time even if your machine goes out of warranty soon after.

THe funny thing was that, She told me yesterday that she was going to get a Dell.. Her work computers are Dell and her coworkers recommended her a Dell...

I told here At the tech room (circuit city) , 80% of the computers that come to get fixed are DELL and compared to other brands in the tech room, Dell is the highest...

She told me that she will never listen to me again...

Excelent. Tell her to get a Sony or Toshiba.
When her Dell breaks you can point out that you told her to get a good one and that she refused to listen.

Almost 90% of them are user created... Software issues, Antivirus and spyware crapped PC's... around 10% are hardware related...

She is either getting a Toshiba or a HP but the first preference is Toshiba...

No.. that is not what I think....

What I think is... people who have PROBLEMS scream the loudest. Get them all in one room and that's all you have and you get the opinion that is the way it is...

Yet, a whole bunch of folks who didn't have that same experience yet never really voiced themselves (Obviously in any situation, people will complain much louder about bad things than they will congratulate on a good job.), then you have the assumption that all were bad.

Now... if you can show me that more than half of all Dells fall into your category, then I'll go ahead and retract my inference of my laptop and consider myself lucky... until then, you are just voicing your opposition based on the dud you had to deal with.

I really don't blame you based on your previous experience... if that same thing had happened to me, maybe I'd change my mind, however looking at all the Dell laptops and desktops (which I am currently typing this on a Dell GX150 right now.) that my employer buys and knowing that so many of them work just great with minimal maintenance just leads me to believe that you are dealing with isolated cases here.

But hey.. that's just my opinion on that.

Two other attorneys I know, who also bought 8100's at the same time I did, also had problems. If memory serves, I mentioned the one guy before. I found out about the other guy's problems more recently. - 2 more.

My wife had nothing but problems with her Latitude laptop - bought by her company for work and maintained by the tech services there. (Meaning I never had anythign to do with it.) After numerous problems they replaced it with another Latitude. - Seemed fine for a while, but then problems developed. - 2 more right there.

Her company, which is quite large and well known in both its previous and current incarnations, decided to change from Dell to IBM thinkpads. According to the tech services department, they were having SO many problems that they decided it would end up costing them less to go with the more expensive IBM's. (Not going to count any particular number there, but it shows the extent of the problem.)

My wife's grandfather bought a Latitude D600 and docking station. He was constantly having problems with it and towards the end of his life it was only working intermitently. I know that he bought new batteries for it, bought new power adapter, and many other steps that were suggested by Dell. When we were up there dealing with everything, my father in law said that we should probably not even bother with it. That was his opinon from what he and his father had tried. - 1 more right there. (I should probably note that he had a previous Dell laptop which he loved, so these problems shocked him)

My father told me that several of his friends had nightmare experiences with Dell laptops, one of which was never resolved....another of which Dell did manage to satisfy. -- lets call this 1.5

My step-father has a top end dell laptop that he was forced to buy 3 years ago. He has had a few minor problems that I fixed for him, but otherwise loves his Dell and NEVER had to send it in.

So, its more than just a few experiences that I know of and NOT just me. I dont expect this to change your mind, but I know I am not crazy.

DF, there is still NO SOUP FOR YOU!

Are IBM Thinkpad's still the best??

Sony Laptop's are really not that great..I had a sony laptop and it died in 3 months.. The LCD went kapput but sony replaced it and then I sold it. When I worked at staples, There were 3 DOA Sony laptops.. It just wouldnt boot, Even the Tech was suprised...

I really like the Toshiba Laptops especially the Qosmio's but I am really happy with the Asus Z71v laptop I built... Plays all the hottest games...

I work on hundreds of laptops. I'd take them Dell, IBM, Panasonic, Toshiba, Sony, Acer, HP/Compaq, Averatec. in that order.

But then, I'm reading about all those dell problems, and I'm seeing user issues. Whenever I see "managed by tech services" I automatically know the problem is either "mismanaged by tech services" or "****ed up by user". I'm guessing the former, it's amazing what hairbrained security programs or whatever tech services put on machines and wonder why they blow up.

I mean, my latitude 1100 has been invulnerable. Of course, I've upgraded the proc more than a few times, but that's just me. 2.2 celeron is currently a 2.8 P4. But it's been a workhorse machine.

I have a friend who worked in Tech Support at COMPUSA. He told me that Toshiba has a department which does everything it can to discourage laptop owners from utilizing their warranties.

I have a Toshiba which I love, and am glad it is out of it's warranty period.

I'd say IBM & Dell share the top spot - IBMs (Well, Lenovo now) are built a bit better & have some nicer features. Dell has much better warranty service - with their next day warranty, the machine actually is fixed the next day. In several cases when we've called for service, Levovo's next day service will take 1-2 weeks until the machine is completey fixed (parts on backorder, tech didn't bring the right part, etc).
