computer lockup continued

So now when my computer locks up and I reboot it, it seems like it takes for ever to boot and doesnt have the "power" to do it. Like it is struggling like to get the hard drives, floppy drive and cdrom going. Any ideas? Power supply maybe, is there a way to determine if that is going bad? Please HELP!!

Are you overclocking in the bios?? how many watts is your PSU?

I had that problem when I was overclocking but I finally managed a 800mhz overclock. I had to underclock the ram to maintain stability...

i am not doing any overclocking.
I restarted my power supply with the switch in the back of the computer, and the weak booting went away.
My PSU is 500 watts.
Just seems like the psu is crapping out <shrugg>

I also have a 500w psu..

I have the AMD Opteron 165
Assu A8N-E
4 x 512mb Corsair DDR ram
seagate 200gb hard drive
Raptor 74gb hd
Maxtor 160gb HD
X800 pro
water cooling pump is connected to the PSU
DVD writer.

I really dont think its the PSU. Unless the 7800GT is totally sucking power.

What type of mobo you have?? If you Asus, Get their ASUS monitoring software, it will let you know if you need more power or what is getting a weak power.

Do you mean when xp loads up, its just slow?

I have an Epox 9NPA+SLI mobo.

Their monitoring program gave me this info

CPU VCore: 1.50V
CPU temp: 40C / 104F

Voltages:
+3.3V: 3.2V
Chipset: 1.5V
+5V: 4.9V
Vdimm: 2.7V
Vbat: 3.1V
5VSB: 4.9V

Memory: DDR-400
(166 MHz)
PCI-E: (100 MHz)

Any ideas from that info? Also why is it saying my memory is 166MHz and is 100MHz correct for PCI-E.
The ram i am using is this:
Gigaram PC-3700 Dual Channel 2-3-2-5 max volt 2.9V
Shouldnt it be running at 200MHz?

Yes painfully slow and the floppy drive was making wierd sounds. I got rid of that problem however by flipping the switch on the back of the psu/computer as opposed to using the plastic button on the front of the computer.

Nope, just a mouse in the USB.

I contacted geeksquad.com.
They told me they think it is my OS. But I cant imagine that could be in since a reformatted and the problem went a way for a few days and is back now. Does that make any sense?

Can you hit ctl-alt-del to see what's sucking up resources? I say you start disabling stuff in the hardware manager. Maybe start uninstalling, rebooting, reinstalling certain drivers. Swap in different hardware (ram or videocard) if you can.

It still might be software. Something may have corrupted something windows. I'll assume you've tried running scan disk. You know, some windows problems go away after defragging and rebooting a couple times.

Yea, i have tried reinstalling device drivers and what not. Basically the only thing i have installed program wise right now is world of warcraft. What makes me think it is a hardware problem is that the problem comes and goes (software problems seem to show up and be persistant) and it happens even before windows boots (the occassional slowness and weak booting). I had problems with both a fresh install of windows 2003 server and windows xp.

i would run memtest on your memory, I had a faulty stick that was causing errors for me, thats what I get for saving 2 dollars and getting a no name brand.
