I'm assembling my first AMD based system and have a ? about the power supply. The mobo (MB m805LR) has only the ATX power supply slot, yet the power supply has both the ATX connector and an additional AUX power connector. After assembling the new computer, it won't power on. I'm thinking it's because the power supply needs the AUX plugged in somewhere. I've tried using another powersupply from a working computer with no luck (it too, has a AUX power connector). I think I'll need a new power supply but hope not. Any ideas?

Hello tkillion20:

No you don't have to plug in Aux to power on an ATX power supply and system. Maybe the motherboard is dead. Who makes that motherboard by the way? I would try out a third ATX power supply to see what the result is.

Buycomp has Antec's great PP303X 300W POWER SUPPLY which is AMD recommended for Athlons for $37.82

Talking Problem fixed ?

Fixed part of the problem. I bought a new 250 wat power supply which worked properly (it didn't have the AUX power connector.) I still haven't been able to retest the other power supply. It is suppposedly one of the AMD recommended power supplies (according to the vendor).

What is the brand of the new power supply that you've got?
To see if it is recommended, check out this site:
http://www1.amd.com/athlon/power

Also, it is best to go with the 300 watt power supplies
since the new AMD processor requires more power usage.
I would just go with sbp in getting the ANTEC.

If your sys isn't stable, you can always sell your 250 watt power supply on ebay or GA. Everytime I build AMD sys, without a doubt I choose 300 watt power supply.
