Two problems; any help/advice/info would be appreciated.

1) My computer seems very unstable when I have my sound card installed (ie locks up). With the card out, no problems. Seems pretty obvious what's causing the problem. I just want to know why this is happening and if there is anyway to fix it. The sound works fine with the card, but the computer locks up frequently.
Maybe it's PCI conflict? The card is Asound ALS4000 and the mobo is Asus A7V.

2) For some odd reason, floppy drives in my computer sometimes just don't register. Sometimes everything works fine, but often I get "Disk not formatted" message. Does anyone have any clue why this is happening? The case is an Antec KS 282 if that has anything to do /w it. (ie, shorting, etc). I've tried 3 different floppy drives with the same results and they all worked with no problems whatsoever when not put in the floppy drive bay.

What OS are you using?

The problem with the sound card could possible be the driver.

I had a similar problem with my floppy drive. When I formatted and reinstalled the OS, the problem went away. I still have no clue why it did that.

I'm using Windows 98 SE. The odd thing is that I just did nuke the computer and the floppy is doing it. As to if it was doing it before the nuke, I don't know; it was built just before it was nuked.

Does it happen..

When you read a disk from boot? If your not having any issues with the floppy working from boot, then point to the OS. If you watch the boot sequence every time you boot, it should tell you if its having trouble seeing the floppy. If thats the case then replace the floppy cable, then look at floppy drive controller on the motherboard. I have a program that I could mail to you called troubleshooter that could help you identify whether its hardware or software. Let me know.

The floppy doesn't give any trouble at boot. It's only under the OS that gives problems.

Thanks to all who offered info. Somehow, one of the drives just started working consistently *shrug* I just use them, build them, play games on them, and am learning to program them (computers); doesn't mean I have to understand them.

I recently bought a new system (built it from components). I am using the Asus A7V and had the same problems with my sound card. (I've also noticed the same thing with my fixed disk but haven't found a workaround for that yet)
I found that changing a BIOS setting stopped the problems. I told it that it wasn't a plug and play OS. I don't know why it worked, it just did.
