Anyone have any ideas for diabling the ATA-100 on my A7V?

Couldn't you just use the primary IDE slot that is not ATA100? Why do you want to disable the ATA100?

Well, I don't want to use it, and it adds what feels like an eternity to the startup process.

I know what you mean there! I helped out a friend of mine set up his system with the A7V and once we installed the promise drivers, it took about 2 minutes to start up! You might be able to disable it in the bios (doubt it), but I you also might want to try the new bios version for the board and see if that helps at all. You may have tried not installing the promise drivers for the ATA100 and just use the ATA66 IDE slots. That should cut down your start up time a little.

problems?

I have ATA100 and I have no boot lag whatsoever. I boot in about 60 seconds (antivirus/registry loading is what slows most of it down)

maybe it's because of my mobo (CUSL2)

any ideas?

I don't know how it would affect boot up, but you could just add a device to the IDE chain that isn't ATA100 ready - which forces ATA/66 or 33 (the port runs at the speed of the slowest device.

I have heard of ATA100 controllers making the time to start up drag on and on.

The CUSL2 motherboard isn't using the Promise ATA100 controller. So this may account for the difference in start up time.

"...but you could just add a device to the IDE chain that isn't ATA100 ready - which forces ATA/66 or 33 (the port runs at the speed of the slowest device." This is no longer true and hasn't been for a while. Each device runs at its specified speed without slowing the other one down.

So would this be true for the Abit BX133 RAID? (It uses Highpoint's chip for the RAID.) Cause I had problems running any drives off of the ATA100 slots but no problems whatsoever in the regular UDMA33 slots.
