This may be a dumb question for you people,... but I can't seem to get the password to be saved/cached so that I don't have to keep typing in my password to check my email.
I've checked the registry settings, and changed the appropriate ones, but they get changed back as soon as I start Outlook and check my email. I'm on Win2K, using Outlook 2000. Thanks in advance. - B |

What kind of mail are you checking - on an Exchange server, or a POP3 server to an ISP?
For a POP3 mail server, just go into Tools.. Services.. Highlight your mail information service.. Click Properties.. go to the Server tab.. type your password in the Password box under Account Name.. click on Remember Password.. OK all the way out. For an Exchange server, it depends on your OS, whether you're connecting locally or remotely, if there's a VPN, etc. Let me know if you need further help. |

Well,...
Under Tools, there is no such thing as Services. If I go to Tools, and then Accounts,... select the account, and there I'll find Services. And I HAVE checked that box, but the password doesn't save. That's why I was looking in the registry,... That box is checked, I'll input in the password,... but it won't save/cache. Please advise. |

Well, if you don't have a services menu item then you're running POP mail only, which is no big thing - just means you're not using Exchange.
If you have the 'save password' box checked and it keeps prompting you for your password, either: 1. Your saved password is the wrong password. If the password is bad, it'll prompt you for the right one. When it prompts you, put in the correct password, re-check the 'save password' box, and you'll be good. 2. The installation of Outlook is bad. Try running the Office auto-repair, or remove & re-install Outlook. Let me know if that helps.... |

If my mail server is down, I'll get a prompt for password sometimes. That could be the case also.
